As always, keep track of both the stats and roster countdowns in the Offseason Hub!
Isaiah Hankins took over the role of the Bears' go-to placekicker in the 2021 season as a true freshman. Hankins is entering his second year at Baylor and has three years of eligibility remaining including 2022. He made the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in the Fall of 2021 and is majoring in physical education.
In 2021, Hankins totaled 99 points and was an outstanding 47-47 on extra points. He was 70% on field goals in 2021, going 14-20 on the season. He excelled in close distance and was 11-13 from under 39 yards but went 3-7 from 40+ yards. With 99 points in his first collegiate season, the freshman from Arkansas was the 49th leading scorer in the country.
Chris Sailer Kicking rated Hankins as a five-star prospect in the 2020 class. In high school at Little Rock Christian Academy, Hankins totaled 106 points and 34 touchbacks as a senior plus 113 points and 57 touchbacks as a junior.
Chidi Ogbonnaya is another piece to an extremely deep Baylor defensive line for the upcoming 2022 season. Ogbonnaya redshirted his freshman season in 2017 and is entering his sixth and final year in Waco. He is majoring in communications and has made the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll five times. One of the main reasons the sixth-year senior chose to return to Baylor for another season was to play on a stacked defensive line alongside guys like Apu Ika, Jaxon Player, and Gabe Hall.
In 2021, Ogbonnaya totaled seven tackles on the season. His best game was in the Big 12 Championship against Oklahoma State, in which he recorded two tackles and half a sack.
Ogbonnaya played in 8 of the 9 games during the 2020 season and did not record a tackle but picked up a quarterback hurry in the game versus TCU.
The 2019 season that featured a Sugar Bowl berth was Ogbonnaya’s best season as a Bear so far stat-wise. He appeared in all 14 games and finished the year with eleven tackles, three of those being tackles for losses. Against Oklahoma State on 10/19, Ogbonnaya had his first career forced fumble and one sack, along with 2 tackles.
After redshirting his true freshman season in 2017, Ogbonnaya played in 10 games as a backup defensive tackle in 2018. He collected five tackles on the year and had a career-high 2 tackles at No. 12 West Virginia.
As an All-District player from Langham Creek High School in Houston, Texas, Ogbonnaya was ranked as the No. 194 prospect in Texas in the 2017 class. In his senior season at Langham Creek, he totaled 26 tackles, eight TFL, and two sacks.
