Today we are starting a series of brief statistical articles to count down the days until the kickoff of Baylor’s 2022 football on September 3rd against Albany. We will find a stat that in some way relates to the number of days until kickoff and tell you all about it. You can keep track of these articles through our Offseason Hub where you will also find the player of the day countdown as well.
In 2021, Baylor was 10-0 when leading at halftime.
By game the Bears were:
- Leading Texas State 14-10
- Leading Texas Southern 42-0
- Leading Kansas 14-7
- Leading Iowa State 21-13
- Leading West Virginia 28-10
- Leading BYU 17-7
- Leading Kansas State 17-7
- Leading Texas Tech 17-10
- Leading Oklahoma State 21-6 in the Big 12 Championship
- Leading Ole Miss 7-0 in the Sugar Bowl
Collectively, the Bears were +128 in the first half of those ten games. Including the other four games Baylor played, the team was still +108 in first halves last season. Compared to a second-half split of +79, Aranda’s squad was fairly even between halves considering the 42-0 half against Texas Southern among other factors.
Three of the four games where Baylor was not ahead at the break also came in a row. Texas, TCU, and Oklahoma each kept even with the Bears or better. But the Green and Gold were able to win two of those games.
Clearly, the Bears knew how to close out games in 2021, and they will look to continue the perfect record through the 2022 season as well.
