98 days till kickoff: Ebner's electric 98-yard kickoff return vs Iowa State
As always, keep track of both the stats and roster countdowns in the Offseason Hub!
Against Iowa State on September 25th, 2021, Trestan Ebner returned a kickoff 98 yards to the house. The touchdown made the score 16-28 with 6:59 left to play in the third quarter.
The six points were the lone trip across the goal line for the Bears in the second half against the Cyclones, and it worked wonders to quell the visitor’s comeback attempts.
A fourth-quarter Isaiah Hankins field goal and a stop on an ISU 2-pt conversion attempt sealed the win for the Bears. It was Baylor’s first win over a ranked opponent since December 29, 2015 when they beat No. 10 North Carolina in the Russell Athletic Bowl. It was also Dave Aranda’s first ranked win as a head coach. He now has five after the Bears’ Sugar Bowl victory over Ole Miss, which happens to be a school record for ranked wins in a season.
All of those accolades are thanks in large part to Trestan’s electric kick return. It was the third kick-return touchdown of Ebner’s collegiate career, and it was the fifth-longest return in Baylor history.
