Lanz, a defensive end from Denton, Texas, is a redshirt freshman and has four years of eligibility remaining. He made the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in the Fall of 2021 and is a pre-business major.
The Denton native redshirted the 2021 season and saw no action on the field.
Lanz was a three-star recruit coming out of Guyer high-school. As a senior he won the Texas Sportswriters Class 6-A Defensive Player of the Year award while racking up 15 TFLs, 8 sacks, 15 QB hurries, and one forced fumble in 2021.
According to 247 Sports, Lanz was a three-star recruit and was the No. 145 player in Texas. He also earned the No. 84 spot in the Dallas Morning-News Top 100 for the class of 2021.
He chose Baylor over other Texas schools such as Houston, Abilene Christian, and North Texas.
