90 Days till Kickoff: Estrada's game against WVU & Joe Williams pick six
As always, keep track of both the stats and roster countdowns in the Offseason Hub!
On October 9, 2021, Drew Estrada racked up 90 receiving yards in the Bears' 45-20 victory over the West Virginia Mountaineers. This was a season high in yards for Estrada and he achieved it on just four receptions. The longest of his catches went for 58 yards in the second quarter, part of an 85-yard touchdown drive. That score expanded the Baylor lead to 28-7, and put the game out of reach before halftime.
Estrada tallied 367 yards and one TD on 30 receptions through the 2021 season. His one TD came in the Big 12 Championship game against Oklahoma State.
A decade earlier in the same stadium as that Big 12 championship, Joe Williams scored a 90-yard pick-six against Texas Tech.
Williams’ third quarter score made it 52-28 Bears and propelled the team to a 66-42 victory despite star quarterback Robert Griffin III getting knocked out of the game in the first half. Nick Florence stepped in brilliantly and the Bears claimed their eighth win of the season.
Baylor finished that year 10-3 with a historic and entertaining victory over Washington in the Alamo Bowl. Plus Griffin won the only Heisman Trophy in program history to date.
