This is 19 minutes long, but worth your time if you love Linda Ronstadt. It's Linda looking her very best singing Blue Bayou. She even sings a verse in Spanish. Then she sits down for an extended interview with Johnny Carson that includes some sorta sexual energy between them. Linda comes off as smart and funny. This might have been her best period of her career. Enjoy.

The Uniques featuring Joe Stampley recorded at Robin Hood Studios in Tyler, Texas. Produced by Knox Henderson (who named himself after the exit on Central Expressway in Dallas). A beautiful song.

Here's a great version of Layla by Clapton before he went all unplugged. Don't get me wrong, Eric unplugged is great too, but watching his electric solos is amazing. He knows how to start this one off too, about 45 seconds in.

Van Morrison with probably his best band line-up ever.
Georgie Fame on the Hammond B-3, Brian Kennedy on vocals, Leo Green on tenor sax and a knocked-out horn section.
Van at his best

Best house band ever with Steve Cropper and Booker T Jones.

Notice members of Creedence in the background.

Pat Green catches a lot of flak, much of it justified. But he still has some gems.

An angel on a Harley
Pulls across to greet a fellow rolling stone
Puts his bike up on it's stand
Leans back and then extends
A scarred and greasy hand

He said "How ya doin' bro? Where ya been? Where ya goin'?"

Then he takes your hand
In some strange Californian handshake
And breaks the bone

(Have a nice day)

A housewife from Encino
Whose husband's on the golf course
With his book of rules
Breaks and makes a 'U' and idles back
To take a second look at you
You flex your rod
Fish takes the hook
Sweet vodka and tobacco in her breath
Another number in your little black book

These are the pros and cons of hitchhiking
These are the pros and cons of hitchhiking
Oh babe, I must be dreaming
I'm standing on the leading edge
The Eastern seaboard spread before my eyes
"Jump" says Yoko Ono
"I'm too scared and too good looking" I cried
"Go on", she says
"Why don't you give it a try?
Why prolong the agony all men must die"
Do you remember Dick Tracy?
Do you remember Shane?

Child: "And mother wants you"

Could you see him selling tickets
Where the buzzard circles over

Child: "Shane"

The body on the plain
Did you understand the music Yoko
Or was it all in vain?

Child: "Shane"

The ***** said something mystical "Herro"
So I stepped back on the kerb again

These are the pros and cons of hitchhiking
These are the pros and cons of hitchhiking
Oh babe, I must be dreaming again
These are the pros and cons of hitchhiking

One of my former colleagues was a huge Roger Waters fan. Pink Floyd was really never my speed, but I did like Waters' "on the verge of losing control" style voice.

One of my favorites:

"Done With Bonaparte"

We've paid in hell since Moscow burned
As Cossacks tear us piece by piece
Our dead are strewn a hundred leagues
Though death would be a sweet release

And our Grande Arme is dressed in rags
A frozen starving beggar band
Like rats we steal each other's scraps
Fall to fighting hand to hand

Save my soul from evil, Lord
And heal this soldier's heart
I'll trust in thee to keep me, Lord
I'm done with Bonaparte

What dreams he made for us to dream
Spanish skies, Egyptian sands
The world was ours, we marched upon
Our little Corporal's command

And I lost an eye at Austerlitz
The sabre slash yet gives me pain
My one true love awaits me still
The flower of the Aquitaine

Save my soul from evil, Lord
And heal this soldier's heart
I'll trust in thee to keep me, Lord
I'm done with Bonaparte

I pray for her who prays for me
A safe return to my belle France
We prayed these wars would end all wars
In war we know is no romance

And I pray our child will never see
A little Corporal again
Point toward a foreign shore
Captivate the hearts of men

Save my soul from evil, Lord
And heal this soldier's heart
I'll trust in thee to keep me, Lord
I'm done with Bonaparte

Bob Dylan said that this was the best (and his favorite) version of his composition, Positively 4th Street. Similarly, Van Morrison said nobody is better at covering other people's songs than Johnny Rivers. I personally think Van does a pretty good job at covers, himself.
