It was the artist Zheani describing her childhood, of how her mom brought home horrible men with porn addictions around her and how her father sold drugs and eventually died of an opioid overdose. As she mentions multiple times throughout the song "can't blame me" because she realized the environment she grew up in affected who she surrounds herself with to this day.

Maybe a topic for another thread.

"Can't blame me" says I'm doing something deserving of blame. If a person knows they are blame worthy, should they not take ownership of their actions?

I am aware of a 16 year old (maybe 17 now) who witnessed one parent kill the other and then take their own life. This happened before she was 10. She then bounced around from foster home to care organization to foster home again (lather, rinse, repeat). Today she has been adopted by a good family but rebels at , seemingly, ever opportunity. I think her mind is programmed for instant gratification because she has never had anything in her life show benefits in the long term.

I can see both sides for teens and preteens but really struggle to be empathetic to adults with the "can't blame me " attitude.

I view her abit different based on my experience losing a parent(my Baylor dad left when I was 13, sad times)

This kid just sounds angry and confused and has turned to drugs/alcohol to self medicate(instant gratification) in order to temporarily feel she measures up and is ok in her own skin

Gotta spend a couple decades overcoming overwhelming anger. Who wants to deal with them like that. Scary angry person and self destructive behavior abounds. Hope they live through it

Its the way of the world: medicate your pain. And she likely will do so her whole life unless someone helps her learn that Jesus heals the broken hearted.

Just speaking from personal experience. I've done a ton of medicating in my life until God brought healing for past hurts. Thats the only thing that will set you free from self medicating.

I know that's bad to say, but it's true.

There are indeed many artists that fall into that "category." Seems those old demons love to attack the people to whom much talent has been given.

Back in my Baylor days Jackson Browne's "The Road" album was everywhere. The last song, "The Load Out/Stay" was a huge hit and a very cool medley. This is a different take 30 years later, a medley of "Stay" and "Love is Strange" with David Lindley (the original falsetto voice from Stay.) I like it.
