By following through on his wishes, the Cowboys save $1.4 million but have a little over $3.8 million in dead money counting against the salary cap, per Over the Cap. Because of that, some may question whether the team would've been better off waiting until June 1 to release Scandrick, considering Dallas would've saved $3 million with nearly $2.3 million in dead money.

a couple of interesting DTs just released that could be interesting:

Bucs released DE Robert Ayers. Ayers had a $1 million roster bonus due on Sunday. His release creates $6 million in cap savings, so this was an easy move. Ayers has seen his sacks decline the last two seasons, but remains a solid run stopper.

Colts released DT Johnathan Hankins. This is largely scheme based with the Colts moving to a Tampa-2 defense. Hankins had a solid first year in Indy, but he didn't do much to improve them against the run. The Colts have one of the best cap situations in the league but save $8.5 million from his release. Hankins won't struggle for interest as the top interior lineman available behind Ndamukong Suh. The Titans and Seahawks are possible landing spots.

There goes Wilbur:

Kyle Wilber - LB - Raiders
Raiders signed OLB Kyle Wilber, formerly of the Cowboys.
Wilber spent the last six seasons as a key special teamer in Dallas. He can also back up at both outside linebacker spots.

You do know where the Indy DC came from?

Sorry Bryce...

The New York Jets shook up the top of the NFL draft on Saturday morning, completing a blockbuster trade with the Indianapolis Colts that will put them in better position to select a potential franchise quarterback.

The Jets moved up three spots to No. 3, while sending the No. 6 overall pick, two second-round choices this year (Nos. 37 and 49) and their second-rounder in 2019 to the Colts.

Yep. Rob Ryan protege that we kept when Ryan got canned. Thought he might be our next DC

The Redskins will host free agent DT Johnathan Hankins for a visit on Sunday. They're also visiting with CB Orlando Scandrick. Hankins had a strong 2017 with the Colts and is the top interior lineman available behind Ndamukong Suh. He would be a huge get for a Washington defense that ranked last in the league in stopping the run.

Boys designate Scandrick as a post-June 1 release, the Cowboys will get $3 million in salary cap space after June 1 and his $600,000 signing bonus proration will go into next year's cap.

Who is David Irving at #36? That is the danger of playing this game on the tender...the boys better get it right if they take the pick.

no way we can compete with them on salary. I think they headed into FA with over $70 mil under the cap

And was Irving a flash in the pan? Concerned that he has also been suspended for half a year. Next time will be big. Has to part of the consideration

A few folks that might be around at 36 in D/Edge area; DT Maurice Hurst, UTSA DE Marcus Davenport. Harold Landry DE/OLB.

Davenport would be the disrupt-er I think
Assassin

that would give us 19, 36 and 50 to start the draft

It does but by tendering only a second you pretty are saying please take him and we can replace him...so what is the replacement plan? Oh by the way you could say the same things in terms of flash in the pan about DLaw too yet we, and correctly so, franchised him.

Not DL/Edge but a few other folks that could drop to that area depending on how the draft goes:

Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame, Courtland Sutton, WR, SMU, Isaiah Oliver, Colorado, Isaiah Oliver, CB, Colorado, Terrell Edmunds, LB/S, Virginia Tech, TEs Hayden Hurst, So Carolina and Mike Gesiki, Penn State

So you get your DL Daron Payne or Vae in Rd 1, then Courtland Sutton or Kirk at 36, then Will Hernandez at 50. I think that would be the start of a very solid rookie class

BTW - there is tremendous lack of depth at the OT spot - and not a lot better at OG. If Hernandez is there at 36, I might go that direction. I really like this kid. Take a shot that Kirk is there at 50 - or use a 4th to trade up a bit in the 2nd if you like someone else

Someone to keep an eye on at our original 2nd round pick area - OC/C Billy Price from Ohio State. Contend for RG spot - backup for Frederick - 6'3, 312.

nfl.com writeup;

STRENGTHS
Freaky strength and explosiveness. Expected to crush the bench press at the Combine. Plays with excellent snap to punch quickness. Lands hands under shoulders and snatches pads gaining control of the man across from him. Core strength and contact balance is a plus. Has redirect power to wipe out gap shooter and recover from early losses. Terrific bend and flexibility in hips unleash his drive blocking power. Works from consistently leveraged position. Generates push against bigger players. Considered highly intelligent by scouting community. Operational in space or in a phone booth. Keeps hands inside the frame in pass pro. Pass sets with wide base and strong anchor. Starting experience as both center and guard. Mean streak will not be an issue.

WEAKNESSES
Has had consistent tape where impatience gets him in trouble. Lunges out to find shade defenders causing him to over-set and lose balance. Early lunging may be a muscle memory concern. Lack of length makes it tough for him to sustain. Could be more static on second level climb so backs can set up his blocks. Can improve re-setting hands against longer defensive tackles. Feet need to follow hands more consistently on redirects rather than leaning. Feet begin to deaden in his mirror allowing athletic rushers to challenge him with counters. Needs to improve footwork to go with his brute force. Can be a challenging personality to deal with according to scouts.

DRAFT PROJECTION
Round 2

SOURCES TELL US
"Man he is a different kind of guy altogether. Has a lot of edge for sure. Love his toughness and his grit and wait until you see him at the combine. He might hit 40 on the bench and he's going to run well too." -- AFC team pro personnel director

NFL COMPARISON
LeCharles Bentley

BOTTOM LINE
Plays like a Wildling at times with tremendous explosiveness, strength and, almost excessive initial charge. Price's power and leverage give him a huge advantage over most centers in this draft. He should be able to come into the league and deal with NFL power right away. However, his impatience as a blocker and tendency to charge in head-first will be used against him by savvy NFL opponents if he doesn't get it cleaned up. Price is an early starter with Pro Bowl potential.

add - he did tear his pec at the combine doing bench press. Incomplete tear so he should be okay for down the road. But could drop him to us in the 2nd

Free agent OT Cameron Fleming will visit the Cowboys on Monday and Tuesday.
If signed, the Cowboys would consider starting Fleming at right tackle and moving La'El Collins back to left guard. Fleming is also drawing interest from the Patriots, who need help at left tackle after losing Nate Solder in free agency.

Yep, looking at Fleming history - not sure he is anything more than spot starter. Swing tackle maybe?

But he wasnt exactly Chaz Green horrible. Fleming allowed four sacks over 369 snaps between right and left tackle last season.

Pats had him on $1.79 one year deal last season

I'd rather draft a OG or OT and flex Collins accordingly.

wonder if they consider him better than Green or Bell? Green cannot slide the left - so he cannot play LT

From Profootballtalk:

Cameron Fleming to visit Cowboys
Posted by Josh Alper on March 18, 2018, 12:45 PM EDT

The Cowboys haven't signed a free agent since the league year opened last Wednesday, but that could change if a visit with tackle Cameron Fleming goes well.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Fleming will be in Dallas to meet with the team on Monday and Tuesday. The 2014 fourth-round pick played in 47 games and made 20 starts for the Patriots over the last four seasons.
The Cowboys didn't get good play from their backup tackles in 2017 and could see Fleming as a way to upgrade that spot.
Rapoport adds that the Patriots would like to bring Fleming back. Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports the same and adds that free agent LaAdrian Waddle, who joined Fleming at tackle for New England last season, was at Gillette Stadium last week. The Patriots have signed Matt Tobin at tackle since longtime left tackle Nate Solder left for the Giants.
