According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, there are "far more" teams not willing to pay free agent Dez Bryant at the league minimum than there are teams that would even sign Bryant to any contract.
Bryant has been on the open market for close to three weeks now, and that market has been pretty icy. Only the Ravens have been known to offer him a deal, one that was reportedly a three-year, $21 million pact that Bryant turned down before the Ravens then moved on to Willie Snead. Per Schefter, the NFC East isn't at all interested in Bryant. It's difficult to even find a suitor.

Broadus on a few of our UFAs

Dalton Sturm, QB, UT-San Antonio, 6-1, 206
Not afraid to put the ball in a tight spot but accuracy can come and go.
Will buy a second chance with his feet, but you see some poor footwork when trying to set up. He can be all over the place.
Has some zip when throwing on the move due to being able to use his entire body. Arm talent is adequate at best.
Doesn't panic when bad things happen to him. Knows how to find the open man. This is one of his best traits.
Will protect the ball in the pocket. Takes some uncalled-for sacks.
Will struggle with his touch in the red zone. Just didn't give his receivers much of a chance.
Has some ability to throw the ball off play action. Good ball handler.
Is not always quick getting the ball out of his hand. Will stand in the pocket to deliver the ball. He definitely has the toughness to take hits.
Was asked to make some clutch throws at the end of games and just couldn't come up with them.

Jordan Chunn, RB, Troy, 6-0, 239
Violent runner.
Doesn't have many moves. Likes to plow straight ahead and run over folks.
He is not going to create much on his own. Big time power player.
Is going to get the ball and lower his head to create space.
Pinball runner. Will bounce off tacklers. Will spin to buy himself some space.
You see snaps where he could have huge runs but then goes to the ground. There are some balance issues.
Best chance that defenders have to tackle him is when going sideways. Doesn't have the speed to finish it.
Does a pretty nice job of adjusting to the ball in the flat and underneath.
Aware pass blocker. Not afraid to deliver a blow. Stays on his feet. Does what he has to do to protect his quarterback.
Can be a load to bring down in the open field.

Malik Earl, WR, Missouri State, 6-2, 216
Takes small steps in his routes. Not much stride to his game.
Not afraid to go across the middle. Runs crossing routes and inside screens. He will go after the ball.
Doesn't have much quickness to get away. Defensive backs stay with him easily. It can be hard for him to buy separation.
Has trouble with the contested ball although his quarterback does him no favors. Ball can be all over the place.
Will adjust to the ball down the field. Made a couple of nice plays where the ball was over his head.
Consistency issues. Earl will make some really nice receptions and then the next ball he will flat miss. His concentration will come and go. Had some bad drops for no reason.

Marchie Murdock, WR, Iowa State, 6-0, 201
Catches the ball in his hands. Will extend to make the play.
Takes a lot of steps in his routes. Sees free access in routes. Cornerbacks just don't walk up on top of these receivers.
Will adjust to the low ball. Will get down on the ground to make a catch.
Can be hit and miss on the contested catch. But he will come back for the ball. Does a nice job of tracking it down the field.
Can adjust along the sidelines. Shows some body control and balance.
Has a hard time separating. Just doesn't have the long speed. Really takes him time to get going. Lack of quickness and speed hurts him.
Physical with the ball in his hands. Will lower his shoulder to fight for extra yards.

More Broadus reports on UFAs;

David Wells, TE, San Diego State, 6-6, 256
Lines up as an inline "Y" tight end. Doesn't play like most college tight ends.
Has the strength to hold defensive linemen in place along the line. Physical player.
Will finish his block. Can get some movement along the edge. Position blocker on the second level.
Works well on the combo block. Can grab the edge in the running game.
Will stay in to pass block. Nice set and punch, keeps his feet active.
Plays with some initial quickness off the line.
Catches the ball well and then gets up the field. Takes him a little time to get going. Not the fastest. Will try and run over the tackle.
Can adjust to the ball over his head. Will find space to help his quarterback.
Can makes the contested catch. Doesn't struggle with men on his back.

Kameron Kelly, CB, San Diego State, 6-2, 206
Tenacious. Will drive to make it a contested ball.
Outstanding ability to extend to knock the ball away. Ability to play around the receiver to get to the ball.
Will high point the ball. Nice job of tracking it down the field.
Has some problem when it comes to turning and running. Limited deep speed but somehow manages to stay in position.
Needs to get his hands on his man. Really nice key and diagnose. When he drives on it, he can defend it.
Used as a blitzer off the edge. Can make things happen attacking the pocket.
Doesn't bite on play fakes. Smart to realize what is happening to him.
Played in the slot at the Senior Bowl. Has the length that you might want to try him at safety.

Joel Lanning, LB, Iowa State, 6-1, 238
Stays square to take on the blocker.
Will step up to make the tackle. Good job of finding the ball.
Doesn't play with much of a burst.
Good wrap up tackler in space. Tackles and holds on.
Reads the quarterback's eyes in coverage and then reacts. Nice sack of Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield playing this way.
Will drive on the ball in coverage.
Plays with great effort to run down the ball carrier.
Has a feel where he needs to fill in order to make the tackle.
At times will get caught out of position or on the wrong side of the blocker.
Some balance issue in pass coverage. Will over run plays.
Attacks the line as a blitzer. Effort is better than athletic ability. Leaves it all on the field.

DeQuinton Osborne, DT, Oklahoma State, 6-0, 300
Plays with initial quickness. Attacks the gap.
Plays with some upper body power. Have seen him make one-armed tackles in the hole. Hold his man along the line.
Good with his hands. Nice job of putting himself in position to make tackles.
Quick swim to free himself from blockers.
Will work down the line to find the ball.
Plays with balance. Stays on his feet.
Has a feel where the ball is going to be. Will spin back inside to make the tackle.
Very good athlete. Doesn't get knocked off his spot much.
Plays with nice technique when rushing the passer. Doesn't stay blocked long.
Will chase the ball from the back side. Can finish when he gets near the quarterback. Stays active on his rush.
Doesn't play like a short guy.

Redskins Cheerleaders Describe Topless Photo Shoots and an Uneasy Night Out
By JULIET MACURMAY 2, 2018

When the Washington Redskins took their cheerleading squad to Costa Rica in 2013 for a calendar photo shoot, the first cause for concern among the cheerleaders came when Redskins officials collected their passports upon arrival at the resort, depriving them of their official identification.

For the photo shoot, at the adults-only Occidental Grand Papagayo resort on Culebra Bay, some of the cheerleaders said they were required to be topless, though the photographs used for the calendar would not show nudity. Others wore nothing but body paint. Given the resort's secluded setting, such revealing poses would not have been a concern for the women except that the Redskins had invited spectators.

A contingent of sponsors and FedExField suite holders all men were granted up-close access to the photo shoots.

One evening, at the end of a 14-hour day that included posing and dance practices, the squad's director told nine of the 36 cheerleaders that their work was not done. They had a special assignment for the night. Some of the male sponsors had picked them to be personal escorts at a nightclub.

"So get back to your room and get ready," the director told them. Several of them began to cry.

"They weren't putting a gun to our heads, but it was mandatory for us to go," one of the cheerleaders said. "We weren't asked, we were told. Other girls were devastated because we knew exactly what she was doing."

Their participation did not involve sex, the cheerleaders said, but they felt as if the arrangement amounted to "pimping us out." What bothered them was their team director's demand that they go as sex symbols to please male sponsors, which they did not believe should be a part of their job.

As you know I was one that really wanted the Cowboys to look at Puna Ford as a 1-Tech, but Osborne has similar traits and given how thin we are at DT, in my opinion, I think he definitely bares watching...if he can play he has a shot to make the roster.

This whole thing is giving the NFL a black eye that you would think the would want to square away sooner rather than later, and it isn't just the Redskins, though it does sound like they are the most egregious.

Jason Witten retired after 15 seasons in the NFL.
News of Witten's likely retirement surfaced during the draft last week, but Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the tight end had yet to make up his mind. He apparently has now. Following in the footsteps of long-time quarterback Tony Romo, Witten will step right into the broadcast booth as the analyst for ESPN's Monday Night Football. A career Cowboy, Witten finishes his run with the fourth-most receptions in NFL history and the second-most by a tight end behind just Tony Gonzalez. With two First-Team All-Pros and 11 Pro Bowls to his name, Witten is very likely to end up in the Hall of Fame.

What a great role model. Kept his nose clean. Respected the flag. Respected his teammates and led by example.

After seeing Rico's "F... this" video and a couple more loaded with all sorts of stuff even worse, I have very low hopes for him being an off the field ambassador. He really has no idea of the platform that he could have had with Dallas.

My Gathers bubble has been burst.

Maybe he can be a better football player.

The Dallas Morning News' Jon Machota reports the Cowboys are excited about second-year TE Blake Jarwin.
"No tight end on the roster has received more praise recently from executive vice president Stephen Jones," Machota writes. Signed as an UDFA out of Oklahoma State last year, Jarwin was promoted from the practice squad in October because the Cowboys were worried he would get poached by the Eagles. With Jason Witten retired, Jarwin looks like a name to watch in camp.

Speaking in a Thursday radio interview, Seahawks GM John Schneider said he believes contract-year FS Earl Thomas wants to spend 2018 in Seattle. "My sense is that he wants to be here," Schenider said on 710 ESPN Seattle. "I haven't got (the sense he wants to leave) from his agents at all." The Seahawks have spent the entire offseason shopping Thomas, but no one has met their asking price. With the draft having come and gone, a move is now unlikely. Four days shy of his 29th birthday, Thomas is almost certainly heading into his final season in Seattle.

Looking ahead to a contract extension./redo for Dak...
==========
Falcons signed QB Matt Ryan to a six-year, $169.25 million contract through 2023.

That's $28.2 million per year, but it's $30 million per year during the extension seasons. That's a threshold that had previously never been crossed in the NFL, and rarely even in other North American sports. It will soon become routine for quarterbacks. Ryan produced as many turnovers as touchdowns in 2015 before his stunning MVP campaign in 2016. He was somewhere in between in 2017. Two weeks shy of his 33rd birthday, Ryan should still have multiple years left of potential elite play. Emphasis on "potential." Ryan sometimes needs to be elevated instead of doing the elevating himself. He has a new No. 2 receiver for 2018 in first-rounder Calvin Ridley.

I pass the Star every day going to and from work. The Marquee out front usually is a rotating billboard display of Cowboys sponsors. Yesterday and today, it just has a picture of Witten with the number 82.

Here is a really cool video clip of Witten talking about his signature Y-route on a radio show with video of a 4th and 6 conversion in a playoff game.

You cant really replace Jason Witten. Too rare a bird. You adapt to the folks you have. Dak is better at quick hitters and mobil pockets then setting up deep in a pocket. Kinda negates the need for the speed burners on post patterns

That guy was poetry in motion. A ballerina in an ogres body. Even going back to his days at Rocky Top.
Winning by cheating is just as impressive as winning fairly, probably even more so. Your opponent was better than you in every way, and you beat them with your brain.

A true artisan of his craft. That fake on the Detroit safety in the video clip I posted is disgustingly nasty.

SportsDay DFW's Jon Machota reports the Cowboys will take a 'committee approach' at tight end.
Geoff Swaim, Blake Jarwin, Rico Gathers, and fourth-round pick Dalton Schultz will attempt to fill the void left behind following Jason Witten's retirement. Swaim is the only one of the group who's caught a pass in a regular season game and will likely receive the first crack at starting. The team remains down on Gathers despite his 7-106-2 line on 89 snaps last preseason, but would be wise to use his 6'6, 273 lb. frame on the goal line. It's a competition to watch closely in camp.
