3 Number Of Times Dallas Has Allowed Three Points Or Less Since 2009

The opponents: Giants, 2017 opener (19-3); Eagles, Oct. 2013 (17-3); Redskins, Dec. 2009 (17-0).

Who says familiarity with division foes is overrated?

Conversely, the Cowboys have scored a total of 44 points in three games against the Giants dating back to last season. Styles make fights, and New York has the defensive talent to challenge Dallas' powerful offensive personnel. Most impressive last Sunday was the Cowboys' own defense: 10 Giants drives, one field goal, 233 yards. Only Cleveland (222) gained fewer yards against them last season.

Terrance Williams (ankle) did not practice Wednesday. Williams briefly went to the locker room with a sprained ankle Sunday night against the Giants but quickly returned to post a 6-68 line. Consider him day to day for now.

One of Terrance Williams' streaks might end so another can continue

One of the things the Dallas Cowboys love about receiver Terrance Williams is his availability.

He has not missed a game in his career -- 65 and counting. He has also not missed a practice -- too many to count.

The practice streak could come to an end Wednesday because of a sprained ankle, but there is hope he can continue his games played streak Sunday when the Cowboys take on the Denver Broncos.

He's a tough kid. Ankle sprains can be a nightmare. Hopefully he's not making it worse by trying to play

The legal developments continued in the Ezekiel Elliott case Friday, as reports surfaced that the NFL has filed an emergency motion for a stay of the injunction that is currently blocking the All-Pro running back's six-game suspension.

According to NFL.com and multiple reports, the league has asked for a ruling by Sept. 26. The league filed the motion with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, though Judge Amos Mazzant who granted the injunction last Friday in a Texas district court has not yet ruled on the league's appeal for a stay.

Elliott and the Cowboys are preparing for Sunday's road game at Denver. As long as the injunction is still in place, Elliott remains eligible to practice and play in games.

As strong as Sunday's opponent, the Broncos have been defensively over the years, their run defense was atrocious in 2016 and they worked this offseason to address it. They asked their returning defensive linemen to add 15-to-20 pounds of bulk. They also added two 330-pounders in Domata Peko and Zack Kerr in free agency to try and improve the size, as well.

How bad was their run defense? Opponents ran the ball 55 percent of the time on first down. Of those first down runs, they averaged 4-plus yards, 44 percent of the time. What was even more alarming for the defense was opponents had 13 rushing attempts for 20-plus yards, which ranked them 26th in the league.

(Sept. 14; 4 p.m.) Cowboys starting safety Byron Jones was added to Thursday's injury report with a groin injury that limited his participation in practice.

Rookie cornerback Jourdan Lewis practiced fully for the second straight day, seemingly putting him on track to make his NFL debut Sunday against the Denver Broncos.

Wide receiver Terrance Williams did not practice for the second straight day. Neither did cornerback Orlando Scandrick, who had surgery Monday to repair a fracture in his left hand.

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals set September 25 as the date for Elliott and the NFLPA to respond to the NFL's Motion To Stay. This means Elliott certainly plays week 3 and probably week 4 as well.

The NFL is really digging their heels in on this. Kinda surprising given what the Judge said.

Darian Stewart (groin) is questionable for Week 2 against the Cowboys. Stewart missed Wednesday's session after hurting his groin in Monday night's win over the Chargers but was back in a limited capacity on Thursday. We're guessing he'll get the green light for Sunday.

Broncos RG Ronald Leary (concussion) is questionable for Week 2 against the Cowboys. Leary was seen with a helmet on at Thursday's practice but was listed as a DNP for the second straight day. Playing on a short week after beating the Chargers on MNF, Leary may have a hard time getting cleared for Sunday's game against his former team.

Broncos placed DL Jared Crick (back) on injured reserve. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Crick needs surgery. The Broncos signed DT Ahtyba Rubin to take his place on Friday morning. Crick didn't play Week 1 and was rather terrible across 938 snaps last season.

Broncos signed DT Ahtyba Rubin, formerly of the Seahawks. Rubin, 31, was dumped by the Seahawks at final cuts after they traded for Sheldon Richardson. The Broncos' defensive front needs help; NT Domata Peko and DT Jared Crick are below-average starters. Rubin isn't much of an upgrade, but he's worth a flier to help try and shore up this defense.

Jourdan Lewis will make his NFL debut and will have a role in the sub packages. Lewis' health has been good and he has been able to back that up with a couple of nice weeks of practice to give the coaches confidence to play him in this game.

Should Zeke record 80-plus rushing yards in the game, it would be the 16th consecutive time he has accomplished this feat. That would break Hall of Famer Marcus Allen's NFL record.

The Cowboys have the second-best road record in the NFL since 2014 (17-7). Only the New England Patriots have a better road record (18-6). Two points come to mind when talking about their success. They're 8-4 in games that have been decided by one score and plus-three in turnover differential. During that same time period, they're 13-12 at home, 5-5 in one score games and minus-13 in turnovers. Just a side note, the Broncos are an NFL-best 193-72 at home since 1984 and 54-12 in the month of September.

Broncos RG Ronald Leary has cleared the concussion protocol. He's still listed as questionable, but this is a good sign for Leary's chances of playing. The Broncos should have their entire offensive line for Sunday's matchup with Dallas.
