The Cowboys have waived guard Parker Ehinger, who was acquired in a trade from the Kansas City Chiefs last summer only to require knee surgery that landed him on injured reserve before the season started. The Cowboys hoped Ehinger could handle one of the backup interior line spots at the time of the deal, but this season the return of Travis Frederick will put Joe Looney in that role with veteran Xavier Su'a-Filo competing for the left guard spot with Connor Williams. The team also waived defensive tackle Aziz Shittu.

The Cowboys have signed punter Kasey Redfern, who has spent time with five teams but last played in the NFL with Detroit in 2017 before suffering a serious knee injury. Chris Jones has been the Cowboys' full-time punter since 2013.

Jaguars claimed OG Parker Ehinger off waivers from the Cowboys.

Ehinger has made six career appearances, zero of which came in 2018. He will begin the offseason program on the outside looking in of a spot on the 53-man roster.

Winning by cheating is just as impressive as winning fairly, probably even more so. Your opponent was better than you in every way, and you beat them with your brain.

Speaking Tuesday, Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said the team is having "active discussions" with contract-year WR Amari Cooper.

He said the same thing about Dak Prescott, though those negotiations have been more in the news. Still two months shy of his 25th birthday, Cooper has had an up-and-down career but made an instant impact upon coming over from the Raiders last October. Jerry Jones is not the kind of owner who is going to surrender a first-round pick for a player then let them walk in free agency. A deal will eventually get done.

One of Ezekiel Elliott's backups in the past two seasons, Rod Smith received an opportunity to potentially catch on elsewhere.
The Bengals worked out Smith recently, according to Field Yates of ESPN.com (on Twitter). This is the first Smith-related news of the offseason.
A former Seahawks UDFA whom the Cowboys relied upon during Elliott's 2017 suspension, Smith totaled 434 yards and five touchdowns from scrimmage during his first year in Dallas. He averaged 4.2 yards per carry that season. However, Smith older brother of Dallas linebacker Jaylon Smith posted just a 2.9-yard average on 44 carries in 2018.
Cincinnati has not added to its backfield this offseason, but the Bengals are fairly well-stocked with Giovani Bernard backing up Joe Mixon. However, little depth exists behind the Bengals' top duo. 2018 UDFA Quinton Flowers is the only other running back on Cincinnati's roster.

Looks like a difficult schedule. Going against the best of the best quarterbacks outside of their division, both Super Bowl teams, another in N.O. that should have been, and a really good Chicago team on the road. Basically, it's all the best NFC teams from last year, and several are on the road. Even the supposed bad teams have two up and.coming quarterbacks in Allen and Darnold.

NFL.com slotted Zeke in at netting $14-$16M per year on his next deal. That's a lot of money to devote to a running back.

Running back: Ezekiel Elliott, Dallas Cowboys ($14M-$16M)

Elliott's current AAV: $6.2 million

Elliott can be a free agent in: 2020, or 2021 if fifth-year option is exercised

Current highest AAV: Todd Gurley, Rams ($14.375 million)

Most guarantees: Gurley ($45 million)

Most guaranteed at signing: Le'Veon Bell, Jets ($27 million)

Hall of Fame talent evaluator Gil Brandt said Wednesday roughly 17 prospects are sure first-rounders. The tier below them is deep.
"You're going to find a whole bunch of players from about 17 to 70 that all look alike," Brandt said. "So it's an interesting draft and a draft that really benefits the Cowboys or teams that do their homework because it can really work out well.
"And if you're looking for a safety, there are more safeties in this draft of quality than I've ever seen in my life."

Kipers first couple of picks for us

58. Dallas Cowboys
Kiper's pick: Khalen Saunders, DT, Western Illinois
It was safety or defensive tackle for the Cowboys here. The super-athletic Saunders fills a need and has some upside.

90. Dallas Cowboys
Kiper's pick: Will Harris, S, Boston College
Dallas needs a safety to push both Jeff Heath and George Iloka. Harris opened up some eyes with a 4.41 40 at the combine.

Yeah, I have to agree, Zeke doesn't look good there. He might develop a push back (from the table) problem that may drive a harder look at a RB this week.
