Love this stuff..... Lavar Arrington says Micah will be the best LB in Dallas history. And Lavar might know a thing or two about that stuff

Kiper gives us a B for our draft

Dallas Cowboys: B
Top needs: CB, DL, OL, TE

The Dallas defense was awful last season, even before Dak Prescott was lost for the year in Week 5. This couldn't be another CeeDee Lamb situation, where they went with an offensive playmaker despite having massive holes on the other side of the ball. They had to get the best defender on the board, ideally a cornerback. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, though, the top two corners went in the two picks before them at No. 10, so give them credit for trading back two spots, adding an extra third-rounder and still getting the guy they say they wanted all along.

The questions now are ... where does Micah Parsons (12) fit, and what does it mean for 2018 first-round pick Leighton Vander Esch and 2016 second-rounder Jaylon Smith? I didn't peg off-ball linebacker as a need for Dallas, but the organization didn't draft Parsons to sit on the bench. So maybe it will move on from Vander Esch and plant Parsons at middle linebacker. He'll improve a porous run defense; the Cowboys allowed a woeful 1,758 rushing yards before first contact last season, by far the most in the league. With Rashawn Slater still available, I thought he would have filled a need at guard. They added to the off-ball linebacker group on Day 3 with Jabril Cox (115), who has some coverage traits.

The Cowboys continued their attempt to improve the defense on Day 2 and ended up using all five of their picks on defenders. Cornerback Kelvin Joseph (44) has lock-down traits, and the team will hope that he can make the same sort of impact that second-rounder Trevon Diggs did a year ago. Defensive linemen Osa Odighizuwa (75) and Chauncey Golston (84) were lower on my board, but they'll help against the run.

I had a late Day 3 grade on Nahshon Wright (99), but he's a big, 6-foot-3 corner who fits the mold of what new coordinator Dan Quinn likes outside. He's quite confident in his skills, but I didn't see an NFL starter on tape. Israel Mukuamu (227) is another tall corner, as Dallas showed its commitment to finding guys for Quinn. Simi Fehoko (179) has some speed for a 6-foot-4 wideout, though this team's receiver room is crowded.

In total, the Cowboys added eight defenders in this class, though they reached for a couple of them. If Quinn's corner picks work out, they could have a couple of steals.

Interesting 7th round pick. He might stick on the roster as someone that can revolve in any of the 5 line positions. He more 'walls' people off than obliterates them, but with our RB's quick first step, thats all they need

Cowboys waived four players on Wednesday. Three of them were claimed today: DE Ladarius Hamilton (Buccaneers), CB Kemon Hall (Chargers) and CB Saivion Smith (Seahawks). Only DT Walter Palmore unclaimed.

NT Antwaun Woods, C Adam Redmond not subject to waivers. Can sign anywhere.

Cowboys LB Micah Parsons was assigned No. 11, his number at Penn State. WR Cedrick Wilson moved from No. 11 to 1, his number at Boise State. Now P Hunter Niswander changing from No. 1 to 10.

There will be two No. 10s for time being: Niswander and QB Cooper Rush.

Cowboys' Will McClay reveals which prospect multiple teams said Dallas stole from them in the draft
McClay also touched on whether Dallas will look for a reunion with safety Jeff Heath.
9:00 AM on May 6, 2021

Will McClay, senior director of college and pro personnel for the Dallas Cowboys, recently joined the GBag Nation on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM] to talk about the Cowboys 2021 draft class. Here are some highlights:

Will, did you feel like the draft gods gave you a gift with Jabril Cox there at 115?

Will McClay: "Yeah, we kind of sweated it out a little bit. He was a guy that when we came into the offseason, and we're thinking about things and how you continue to improve the defense and looking at the landscape of how offenses are played. Now, there's a lot of it's a space game. And then there's a lot of tight ends and big receivers, slot type stuff that you have to cover in the way that the game is played. So he's shown the ability to be able to do those things. So when it came down, we were going through the process, he was the guy that, you know, I thought fit that bill and several others did. And then you know when he was sitting there, so we got to go, you know, we got to go do that. It's the right time."

I think you got a guy with clutch genes there, man, that kid when you watch [Simi Fehoko] on tape, he it seems like he makes every single play, Will.

McClay: Yeah, I mean, he was a guy that, you know, you look at the physical measurables. And you say, boy, there's something that because again, we're always looking at, if you look at everybody's draft, they're always looking for the, you know, the big athletic guy with the high, you know, athletic spark score or whatever. But then they have to be able to play football, and you see his measurable, then you see him play and you see him, as you said, Brian, being a clutch guy for them, and that he's just got this thing about him as a player. And he hadn't achieved his full ceiling yet. So I'm excited to get him with our offensive with Coach Henry, who I've been around for a couple years. He does an incredible job with receivers, making them better. So if you got a guy with a high level of skill and talent and you need, you know, the right stuff to be able to refine that and grow and get better. I'm really excited about his opportunities to help us move it down line, too.

We had about four or five teams contact me afterwards and they were they were like 'Damn, we were going to go after him.'

Should we expect a little interest maybe in the recently released Jeff Heath?

McClay: "We'll look at and address the issue as it comes. I mean, we know Jeff and Jeff has done great things for us and he went to Oakland and had a great season. But we were going to go through and look at what we have on the roster. And we're going to look at every opportunity to improve if it makes sense.

Favorite pick: Micah Parsons, LB, Penn State
Regardless of what they say publicly, the Cowboys hoped to draft a cornerback in the first round before they saw two top-level prospects go just before they came on the clock. Nonetheless, Parsons is one of the best talents in this draft class with his athletic traits, especially downhill attacking the pocket. I'm eager to see how new coordinator Dan Quinn plans to deploy his skills.

Day 3 pick who could surprise: Jabril Cox, LB, LSU
The Cowboys came close to spending pick No. 99 on Cox, but were still able to land him 16 picks later. With entrenched starters Leighton Vander Esch and Jaylon Smith, along with Parsons, it is a crowded linebacker depth chart in Dallas, but Cox's coverage abilities will make him a match-up defender.

Fish reported live on 105.3 The Fan that fans should "tap the brakes" on any Driskel signing at this time.

Fish added that Dallas could still sign the former Bronco, but said the NFL is "not clamoring for Driskel's services right now'' and that therefore there is no need to rush to an agreement ... as most other teams essentially have their quarterback situations settled.

Later Friday, another Dallas News writer conflicted with the paper's reporting, Calvin Watkins confirming Fish's point that Dallas "is not signing Driskel right now," adding that there is "more work to be done on this issue."

As Fish previously reported, Dallas is in shopping mode at the position behind franchise QB Dak Prescott, and Driskel would be a relatively welcome addition to the Cowboys quarterback room, given that he has more experience and a better pedigree than the rest of the QB's on the Dallas roster - Garrett Gilbert, Cooper Rush and Ben DiNucci.

But as it regards "imminent signings'' and "great visits''? We'll just tap the brakes on the Driskel-to-Dallas concept for now until we hear otherwise.

ESPN rates Cox as the steal of the overall drqft

Dallas Cowboys selecting ILB Jabril Cox (LSU)
The pick: 115 (Round 4)

The fact that the Cowboys even drafted Cox should tell you how high they were on his services. The Cowboys took the LSU linebacker in the fourth round despite a relative logjam at off-the-ball linebacker, with Leighton Vander Esch, Jaylon Smith, newly signed free agent Keanu Neal and first-round pick Micah Parsons in the fold.

Cox was the 45th-ranked player on PFF's draft board and has earned coverage grades over 80.0 in each of the past three seasons between North Dakota State and LSU. He saw only 41 targets this past season, but Cox still picked off three passes and broke up four more. He may not play right away, but don't be surprised when he locks down a starting role in Dallas.

Micah Parsons arrived at his new home, The Star, on Friday afternoon, just hours after being drafted into the organization he had been praying to hear from. And even if Parsons had been manifesting himself as a Dallas Cowboy, he had to admit that becoming one felt a bit surreal.

"Think if you were 21 and you just met Jerry Jones," he said. "It's pretty freaking awesome, I would say."

David Helman

Right now, I'd expect that they're in line (2022) to get compensatory picks for Chidobe Awuzie, Andy Dalton, Cameron Erving and Joe Thomas. Now, I highly doubt they'll get another third-round pick, because none of those guys signed a deal as large as the one Byron Jones got. But they once again should be in line for at least a couple extra picks.

And now that we have a chance stop all of them, Im optimistic.
Winning by cheating is just as impressive as winning fairly, probably even more so. Your opponent was better than you in every way, and you beat them with your brain.

The Dallas Cowboys might've signed Dak Prescott to a long term extension this offseason, but Jerry Jones and the front office seem to be taking a look at an incoming rookie to add depth to their quarterback room.

According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, former Illinois State quarterback Brad Davis will travel to Dallas this weekend for a tryout with the Cowboys at the team's upcoming rookie minicamp. The sixth-year senior last played for the Redbirds in 2019 and will now get his first opportunity with a professional organization.

Davis began his career at Memphis from 2015-17 but saw little action, prompting him to transfer to FCS-program Illinois State. With the Redbirds the last two seasons, he started 21 games under center, completing 54 percent of his passes for 3,514 yards with 28 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Davis stands at 6-foot-4, so certainly has the size and arm to play in the NFL, but may lack the experience and accuracy to go much further.
