John Keim ESPN Staff Writer

Redskins linebacker Zach Brown said it wasn't Alfred Morris' cutbacks that hurt. It was his line. "He takes like five, eight steps to cut. He's a one-cut back. He can't cut. At all. His o-line gets up on the second level. They do a great job getting to the 'backers so I have to give credit to their o-line."

Other teams in the NFC wildcard race;

Green Bay wins to go to 8-8, Lions lose to go to 6-6, Ravens win to go to 7-5, Falcons lose to go to 7-5, Arizona loses to go to 5-7

Seahags leading the Eagles 10-3... kinda hoping the Eagles win - they have the NFC East pretty much locked up. Seattle is 7-4. They're one of the folk we could end up against

next game up:

Geno Smith completed 21-of-34 passes for 212 yards, a touchdown, and two lost fumbles in the Giants' Week 13 loss to the Raiders. It looked like it was going to be a long day for Geno when the offense opened with three straight three-and-outs, but he bounced back to lead an 11-play touchdown drive to close out the first quarter. The Giants were going well on the next drive, as well, but Smith was strip-sacked on third down, and he lost another fumble inside the 10-yard line just before the half. Geno did lead two late scoring drives to give New York a chance, but he did not show much even against a bad defense to suggest he has found a new level. Who knows at this point, but right now we would guess Smith gets another start next week against the Cowboys.

I'll bet Davis Webb starts next week. They know what they have with Geno. They need to see what they don't know.

Depends on how bad they want to beat us. With SF losing, they have a better shot at that top pick.

The Giants just fired McAdoo and GM Jerry Reese. I suspect the interim coach, Steve Spagnuolo, plays Eli to have any chance of winning and any chance of getting the permanent job.

McAdoo has got to be up there with pathetic coaching stints. Wow, that was ba.

good call.

Eli's 13-13 overall vs us. 48 TDs to 26 picks. Sacked him 52 times. Hopefully we can add another 8 this game to make that a round 60...

What is the status of Rico Gathers? He should be eligible to return from IR, right? Is he still exhibiting concussion symptoms, or does he just not figure in the coaching staff's plans yet?

Rob: Sounds like Gathers has shown a lot of improvement, but team executive vice president Stephen Jones said Monday on 105.3 The Fan that he didn't expect Gathers to be activated back to the 53-man roster this season after missing so much time. It would be a chance for him to be fully healthy and start fresh in 2018.

Bryan: I see Gathers working outside my window each day getting himself ready. Medical staff was very cautious with him, thus the long waiting period we've seen. It was a significant hit that he took from Kavon Frazier. I think you need to take Stephen Jones at his word and wait for Gathers next season in OTAs going forward.

Seattle and Carolina at 8-4 are the current wild-card frontrunners in the NFC. Then Comes Atlanta at 7-5. Next, the Cowboys are in a 6-6 cluster outside the top six along with Green Bay and Detroit.

My 2017 Draft class review:

First, it will be hard to emulate last year's class. Two Rookie of the Year/NFL Player of the Year types. And several other holes filled. Spectacular class. With that said, in this one, we needed defense, especially DBs. Looks like we got three;

Round 1, No. 28 Overall
Taco Charlton - Defensive End - Michigan
It could be argued that Taco is a better LDE than what we needed which was a speed rushing RDE. But those guys went off the board ahead of us. If we lose Irving or DLaw in FA, then he could also work into the interior in 2018 at 6'6, 275. He is playing better - got his second sack of the season. (Also, keep in mind Jerry has kept in touch with Randy Gregory. If he comes back next season, he could step right into the RDE mix. Huge talent)

Round 2, No. 60 Overall
Chidobe Awuzie - Cornerback - Colorado
I have high hopes for this kid. Looked great against the skins. Lets see how he does against Eli and Odell

Round 3, No. 92 Overall
Jourdan Lewis - Cornerback - Michigan
Arguably our best draft pick so far. He and Awuzie could be our two starting CBs for a while

Round 4, No. 133 Overall
Ryan Switzer - Wide Receiver - North Carolina
FINALLY! After some early season idiocy, this kid is taking off. Will be interesting to see if he gets some more work at WR. 83 yd TD return, a 66 yarder and a 31. Theres some potential there

Round 6, No. 191 Overall
Xavier Woods - Safety - Louisiana Tech
Easily our best value in the draft. We gave up a 2018 5th to move up and get him. Great hitter. Not quite as good in coverage. Give him an off season and see how he comes back next year. Worked in the slot in subpackages against the Redskins, a role that third-round pick Jourdan Lewis has also held this year. Gives Lewis some rest

Round 6, No. 216 Overall
Marquez White - Cornerback - Florida State
On our Practice Squad. TBD

Round 7, No. 228 Overall
Joey Ivie - Defensive Tackle - Florida
Cut early. You never know about 7th rounders

Round 7, No. 239 Overall
Noah Brown - Wide Receiver - Ohio State
He had a couple of moments. They really like him as a blocker. Wondering if they would develop him as HBack/backup TE? He's pretty good size for a WR at 6'2, 225. Lots of work on special teams

Round 7, No. 248 Overall
Jordan Carrell - Defensive Tackle - Colorado
Also cut early. It was a roll of the dice

Cowboys LB Sean Lee (hamstring) returned to a limited practice. It puts Lee on track to play Sunday against the Giants. His return will be a big boost to a Cowboys' defense that has struggled for much of the year. Injuries have limited Lee to only seven games this season.

David Irving will not be making it through the concussion protocol, so now the focus will shift to his replacement. Maliek Collins could move back to the under-tackle and Richard Ash would start at the nose. The coaches could also leave Collins at nose and give Lewis Neal his first NFL career start. Neal has been getting plenty of work this week, and against a Giants offensive line that has had its share of problems inside, it would not be a bad option to see what he has going forward.

Cowboys LT Tyron Smith (back) is questionable for Week 14 against the Giants. Smith started the week with a missed practice on Wednesday but returned to limited work on both Thursday and Friday. We're betting on Smith being out there in a must-win game, but if not, Byron Bell would likely fill in at left tackle.

Giants LE Jason Pierre-Paul (finger) is questionable for Week 14 against the Cowboys.

Interim coach Steve Spagnuolo said Pierre-Paul "did a little bit" in Friday's practice, but he "isn't 100 percent sure" JPP will play on Sunday. If Pierre-Paul can't go, Dak Prescott and Alfred Morris' outlooks would be enhanced. Pierre-Paul is a difference maker versus both the run and pass.
