For Baylor to become bowl eligible one season after posting a 1-11 record, the Bears needed some players to play at a higher level than expected.

Luckily, that's exactly what happened for the Bears en route to a 6-6 record that earned them a bid to the Academy Sports and Outdoors Texas Bowl.

Here are five Bears who exceeded expectations in the 2018 season.

1. Jalen Hurd, WR: In his first season at wide receiver, the Ex-Tennessee running back became an effective weapon for the Bears. He led the Bears in receptions (69) and receiving yards (946) and still rushed 48 times for 209 yards, good enough for him to be named the Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year.

2. Charlie Brewer, QB: Some thought senior graduate transfer Jalan McClendon would win out the starting quarterback job over Brewer, but the incumbent sophomore made it impossible for head coach Matt Rhule to sit him. Brewer completed 61.5 percent of his passes for 2,635 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also rushed 117 times for 266 yards and a team-high six touchdowns.

3. James Lynch, DT: In a forgettable season for Baylor's defense, the sophomore defensive tackle Lynch burst onto the scene. Lynch led the team with nine tackles for a loss of 58 yards and also recorded a team-high 5.5 sacks for 45 yards and six quarterback hurries.

4. John Lovett, RB: Coming into 2018, JaMycal Hasty was regarded as the Bears top running back, but it was Lovett who stole the show. Lovett rushed 100 times for a team-high 546 yards and five touchdowns.

5. Raleigh Texada, CB: After recording just one tackle through his first four games, the sophomore cornerback showed promise for the Bears going forward. He finished the season with 31 total tackles, one tackle for a loss, one forced fumble, and team-highs in pass breakups (four) and interceptions (two).

Hurd was excellent. Loved the guy, but didn't everyone have high expectations to begin with?

Jalen Hurd & Charlie Brewer definitely made big impacts in helping the Baylor Bears reach 6 wins this football season.
