With this redshirt rule is there a chance he stays? He had challenges at the beginning of the year but late in the year he looked like he was getting back to normal

Platt's a nice guy, but we have better receivers who need to play.

was the best athlete on the team, including Hurd.

Just because he was faster than Hurd does not make him a better athlete. Somehow Hurd who has practiced receiver for one hear and played an actual year at receiver had better hands than platt.

There are defensive lineman who have better hands than Platt does.

Good news. Great teammate, great Bear. Good for our depth next year. Our offense should be stout.

Maybe send messages like this through PM rather than on public boards.

It's also funny watching those residual cabers crapping on one of the very few cab recruits left.

A GOOD Baylor WR gets granted a 6th year, he decides to stay with us and strengthen our WR corps and the first thing to post is one where it is a very wrong post trashing Platt? Flat out wrong.

I am very glad Platt got his extra year. Our WR corps is going to be one salty group that should make some big noise next season. Sic 'Em, Platt!!!!

Chris worked his ass recovering from surgery to play for us this year. Very glad he's getting one more year. He's a proud Bear.

He was looking really good when he had Zach Smith throwing deep bullets. Brewer is a different type of QB which doesn't play as well to Platt's strength.

If he's got a really strong arm QB he can get behind the defense at least once or twice a game which is enough to make him valuable.

True. You think he's gonna step into Hurd's role?

I'm hoping next season's O-line will improve to the point that Brewer will have more chances to throw deep balls to guys like Platt. As I feared before the start of last season, our O-line wasn't consistently good enough in their pass protection to provide very many chances to go deep, so consequently we didn't and what should've been our best deep threat (i.e. Platt) got largely wasted in that regard. Hopefully next season is different and he'll improve on his "dropsy issues".

Glad he gets another year to play.

He has great speed and has made some really good catches, he needs to become consistent.
Hopefully this is the year for him to make major strides in that regard.

Welcome back for a special year Chris! As mentioned earlier, if the O-line can step up their game, pass block and run block, 2019 is going to be a fun year
Retreat Hell! We just got here! The 2/5

Throwing the deep ball is not about arm strength. It's about timing and touch. Nick Florence may have thrown the best deep ball of any Briles QB, and he had by far the weakest arm.

The funny thing about Charlie's deep misses this year is they were almost always long. That's just something he's got to get better at. He can and I predict he will.

Not trying to derail the thread and I agree Nick Florence truly threw an outstanding deep ball, but as far as who threw the "best" deep ball among the stiff competition of the Briles' QB's I'd rate RGIII and Petty as tied for top honors in that category. It was extremely rare for either one of them to miss a deep throw if the receiver was open to any degree at all and they usually hit them in stride.

Truth of the matter is that the QB whisperer was great with QB's: recruiting, developing, playing. They were all great. Can you imagine how Zach Smith might have developed had he that kind of tutelage? Even with the limited amount he had, he did very good in 2016-17 under very difficult circumstances--including lots of deep balls. Even the crappy announcers at the Cactus Bowl could not help but praise some of his great throws in that game. Specifically, I am thinking about the 22 yard pass to Pooh Stricklin late in the 3rd quarter.

Here is the drive with more than one such throw--note the incomplete pass in the end zone at the end of the drive:

They were all great? Kirby Freeman was great? Chris Johnson was great? Andre Frerking was great? Blake Syzmanski was great? Chad President was great?

Smith had a nice arm, might've done ok in a Briles offense, might do well in Tulsa, but let's not pretend he was an all-world Qb that was going to be a Heisman candidate and a first round pick.

Yah no way Nick threw better ball than RG3... Roberts balls were like a gift falling from the heavens. Nick was great for what he did and I appreciated his time but not better at throwing than RG3
