MSU has been kicking this can down the road for four or five years while national media continued to not make a story of it..... Guess it finally got to the point they could not kick it another inch

I'm kinda shocked this actually happened. For so long MSU has not cared what the public thought about the failures of their program.

Terrible timing being it is the afternoon before signing day.

I hope Fedora isn't interested in the job.

Everyone who is a state fan is actually very pleased with him leaving

So he's pulling a Pete Carroll (USC)
or is it pulling a Bob Stoops (OU - Mixon tape)

I guess there are several examples of coaches leaving at first sign of trouble, and leave the school to deal with the consequences.

PartyBear

This is hardly the first sign of trouble.

You get it.

It wasn't first signs of trouble for Carroll or Stoops either.

This is, on the one hand, hilarious, and on the other hand, sad and depressing.

This guy ran an outlaw program and hangs around to collect a $4.3 million retention bonus, then "steps aside to spend more time with family"....and STILL is going to be employed by the university??????

And....it will get buried and no one will care. Michigan State basically skates.

This would be like Baylor paying Briles a retention bonus, and then letting him hang around.

MSU skates while Baylor is the poster child for sexual assault.

Our BOR really handled its crisis beautifully, right?

What a joke.

We all know this has gone on at many places besides BU and MSU. Had BU not been the first of which attention was focused, our idiot BOR and their apperently deft PR firm might have had some past experiences on which to base a more reasonable and fair process to all involved. Baylor, however was out there on a limb by themselves. People are just now seeing and having to admit a tree has more than one limb.

Combined with the gymnastics situation, MSU should now be the poster child. Anyone want to bet that will happen? Of course not.....regardless of what happens Baylor will continue to be the poster child. Heck, even during the impeachment trial whenever Starr was speaking the TV would show " highligts " of his career. Baylor was shown prominently. The story will always be that Baylor led the way and no one is worse than Baylor.

Fortunately, outside of any NCAA sanction arising from it, it can certainly be argued we are now in a much better place. And if the NCAA wants to hammer BU, they betters have a box of nails ready for the blue bloods of the world. Anything less is the most blatant example of hypocrisy you may ever see.

I believe they fired their school President over the Nassar issues...can't remember if any BOR members got kicked to the curb

I can't wait to watch the next episode of Outside the Lines. I know they will dedicate months upon months to cover this in great detail.

Starr has been embarrassing Baylor since he left.

National media would have continued to keep kicking this can down the road except they now figured out a way to finally separate Izzo from it. He is the one they have tried to protect, not Dantonio. They would have sacrificed Dantonio in a heartbeat. He's not well liked by most media, particularly in Michigan.

Wonder why they would bring Narduzzi back. He was there during most of the time the events happened. If Briles staff was allegedly "tainted," why doesn't this hold true for Dantonio's?

Their local journalists have really done a pretty good job of bringing a lot of this to light the last few years....the national media just never really picked up on it for some reason.

I think MSU told ESPN to get lost when they started poking around a couple of years ago

Even in Dantonio's forced retirement, he gave MSU a classier farewell than Rhule did Baylor.

I know the feeling.

We allowed our Rhodes Scholar to hang around a few years too many. Talk about sad!

Outlaw program? Gangsta is the new outlaw!

You want a bonus? $4.3M is chump change. We paid him to haul @$$. Did Mount Vernon drop down to 2A under the new alignment?

Our BOR did what they had to do to preserve Baylor. My gripe with them is that they were about 2 or 3 years late. Just like cancer, you fail to cut it out and it grows and destroys.

Sugar Bowl trumps Russell Jock Strap Bowl all day long for a parting gift. We are still collecting on Art's gift - NCAA announcement.

As per footballscoop. Fickel has evaluated the situation and doesn't have interest. Apparently the Pitt HC has made the same assessment as well and probably will not return as HC. It was mentioned that the timing of Dantonio's departure forces them into hiring in house and promoting the DC, who happens to be Dantonio's own preferred successor. The DC is Mark Tressell, former Ohio St Hc Jim Tressell's nephew.

I would think now at this point in the year it's pretty hard to get a current Hc to leave where he is. Footballscoop also mentioned the 49er DC and Pat Shurmer as potential candidates.
