There is what Rhule says, and then there is what Rhule eventually does. But....he's the HC and in charge in Charlotte. I wish him well. Glad there are different rules at Baylor now.
(Photo: Getty) Newton has been polarizing since Day One. His haters were left seething as he ran over the NFL in the 2015 season and let them know it. And his haters expressed their schadenfreude after Newton was pulverized in Super Bowl 50 and promptly cut his post-game press conference short. Newton still draws plenty of hate, especially after a recent snarky comment toward a female reporter.
Rich Eisen saying Rhule better brace himself after making this decision because if the Panthers go 5-11 or 6-10 this year without Cam the fan base will eat him alive.
You're right BB, won't be any of this " trust the process," BS from those fans who pay $150 per game for a seat in the rafters - there's not going to be any raw, raw, we're all in this together when you're making $60mm.
If he does for the Panthers what he did for Temple & Baylor, then he will be an NFL hero: a terrible season, a mediocre season, & an amazing season. Question is: how long can he sustain it? The longest he has tried his methods was 4 years at Temple--the last two were terrific. Would Baylor have had another great year if he'd stuck around? We'll never know. At least we probably would have had James Lynch for another year.
Coach Bill now has two QBs that narrowly avoided Matt Rhule. That will be interesting to watch develop. I wish there were A. a season, and B. a featured spot for Hard Knocks.
