Here is another of the myriad dots in this thing that do not connect ...

Option 1: Masks Work - we ought to be able to return to normal and mandate everyone wear a mask.

Option 2: Masks Do not Work - masks are just virtue signaling but really make little effect and we still have to cancel stuff.

I prefer Option 1 but the inconsistency does not make logical sense.

Funny how they ALWAYS omit the overall death rate when they publish Covid statistics, isn't it? Wouldn't fit the fear porn narrative they are trying to keep up.

It is now surging in 36 states. So much for the views here that the summer will cause it to just go extinct.

exceed $1,000.00. Each day on or after June 24, 2020 for which a Health and Safety Policy
is not developed, conspicuously placed, and implemented shall be a separate offense."

Is this a law passed by the people's elected representatives (who therefore can be held accountable)? Or is this a ruling by some executive or bureaucrat who can hide behind whatever excuse he/she wants?

The Constitution is not suspended just because of a pandemic.

On the other hand, I understand the idea of social distancing and masks: even if they only slightly mitigate the risks of someone getting the virus, they have the potential to save some lives. It's not so much the customers or employees at a business at risk, but other people they will come in contact with eventually.

Full discosure: I usually don't wear a mask in public but I don't go out often and usually for only short periods. I will not wear one in a restaurant because that's just silly.
Hey bud, just because it's a very contagious virus, do you think, I mean not to trample over your rights, but just in an effort to be considerate, could you maybe wear a mask when you're close to other people? Take it off for eating? Is that just a bridge too far?

Glad that Waco is asking people to wear masks. It's such a minor inconvenience, and once we are as good at dealing with covid, as we are at dealing with the flu, it won't be such a big deal. Not to mention vaccines and herd immunity a few years down the road. People complaining about 1a rights are the same ones that want the option to yell "bomb" in an airport, you know, just for the principle of the matter. Do we have rights or not?????

Wearing masks is a good idea. The government dictating that everyone must wear one regardless of circumstances is a terrible idea for a free country.

As it turns out, the government of your free country already dictates a myriad of things you can and cannot do. You are making the same untrue argument made before seatbelts were mandated.

Exactly. This guy's kind of "freedom" is harmful to everybody. Is there any lamer excuse to not wear a mask?

Things are so bad sycophant Abbott keeps stepping off the Trump Train wreck. He now says he is open to closing things down if the masks don't work.

Instead of stepping off of the best economy in 35 years, maybe Abbott should have blocked the southern border and sent back all of the sick Mexicans streaming here for medical care. Also he should have stopped the marches that have produced a huge surge of cases. Instead the law abiding citizens are paying for the misguided actions of others, maybe Abbott should just open the economy back up. At this rate, he is going to get voted out of office for mishandling the "so called" pandemic.

Funny that you mention it. I think government mandates of seatbelts is also a stupid idea. It's a good idea to use them but we don't need Big Brother looking over our shoulder for everything we do. And the police should not be in the business of monitoring everything we do. This is America, not Nazi Germany or Communist China.

Obviously you did not pay attention: no excuse there--and not even an argument not to wear a mask. I said just the opposite.
