I don't think they have much choice to do anything other than this. None of them are highly desired by anyone but the AAC. And if anyone leaves, they are in the same boat as UT and OU concerning huge financial obligations. And with all that is rumored to be going on, it seems the only stable conferences at the "P5" level are the SEC and B1G.....and if you believe any of the "sources" out there, the teams they are looking for are above the leftover 8's pay grade.

They can say whatever they want about solidarity and sticking together, but Texas and OU are going to win before the end of this contract, probably well before. What do you think happens the minute WVU gets an offer from the ACC? Or if the Big 10 decides they'll take in Iowa State? That solidarity isn't going to count for anything and the league is going to splinter apart.

The 8 are beginning to realize that neither of those things are probably happening anytime soon.

WVU and ISU will have the same huge financial buyouts that OU and UT will have to pony up. That if nothing else, keeps them sticking together. Does either of WVU, and especially ISU have that kind of money? BTW, the B1G is looking for bigger fish than ISU, and the ACC has already turned their heads away from WVU before. The ACC has to worry about being able to keep Clemson and FSU.

People don't realize that the flimsy financial ties that were present in the conference in 2011 are peanuts to what they are today.

The ACC will be poached as well. Then the two conferences currently known as the SEC and BiG will be reorganized and re chartered and not all current and historic members of those conferences will be invited to two new conferences to get things to the right number. This is what I believe is going to be occurring.

You have to start thinking in terms of dominoes here. Four years is a *long* time, especially considering how fast everything is moving right now. We're eventually going to get down to so few unspoken-for schools that the league will break by default. It's inevitable, nobody is going to be passive enough at a time like this to sit on their haunches until 2025.

I think what you're going to start seeing is package deals - Baylor, TCU and Tech ironing out a Texas alliance or K-State/Kansas banding together. Eight is too many to trust in this environment. There is close to zero chance this conference survives until 2025. The only question is how long it lasts.

They should have voted on:

How to withhold UT and OU's conference cash distribution until 2025

What things would UT and OU need to do to get their distributions

How to enforce the penalty, should they leave early.

Withhold the money now to ensure they pay their penalty at the very least.

Its a bare knuckle fight at this point. Use the interest on the money we are withholding from the cheating 2 to investigate and sue ESPN.

Would not be surprised if it is outside of the NCAA.

Truly sad a supposed academic scholar would comment on 11am kickoffs. How about kicking 8 to the curb?

I don't know that many people are saying it will last as is for four years, but certainly long enough to get every last penny from UT and OU who will not be patient. There is just too much money to get and too much you have to pay up to get out for any type of piecemeal process as we saw a few years ago. In addition it is likely that none of the 8 right now bring enough to the table to warrant picking them up and bring added value to an existing conference. Are you assuming that the 8 or some of them will go to existing conferences as they (the other conferences) exist today? Just like Party and others have been espousing, that, IMO, would be a bad assumption. Bigger things are out there instead of piecemeal getting teams from the 8. My opinion is that if the Big XII does not continue with the same schools and perhaps adding more that the "break-up" if you want to call it that prior to 2025 will be because of massive change with the B1G, ACC, SEC, and PAC. Not them picking off Big XII schools just to add like the SEC has just done.

In other words, it will not be dominoes falling on the table, IMO. It will be that the table collapses and the dominoes are picked up off the floor and the pattern on the table rebuilt with no reason to believe that the schools end up where they started.

BTW, which non-Baylor school are you coming over from to this board as you just joined today?

Exactly. If those were options, ESPN wouldn't be trying to broker a deal to get all eight leftovers into the AAC.

The next round of realignment is about brands. Non-bluebloods need not apply.

This is a point people seem to forget. Texas is the only team in this league that has $80 million to spend on a buyout. Luckily for OU, they have $160 million thanks to the Longhorn Network.

I really think it is pointless to join one of these other "P5s" anyway. All of them are going to be In the same place the 8 of us of the XII are by 2025. Do you want to be a remnant of the XII or remnant of the PAC, ACC, along with the remnant of the current SEC and BiG in 2025? I think the entire paradigm is about to shift more radically than it ever has in the history of college sports.

There's nowhere to go. The SEC and Big Ten don't want any of these programs. And the PAC-12 and ACC don't benefit enough by adding any of them to make it worth their while. Adding OSU and Tech isn't going make the PAC-12 competitive with the Big Ten or SEC. Nor is it going to significantly improve that league's TV contract. It's only going to dilute the annual earnings of the schools already in the conference.

And once the Big Ten comes to poach the PAC-12's top schools, which will happen, joining Pacific Coast rejects will be no more attractive than staying in the Big 12 with your own.

The future for those left out of the Premier League is regional conferences that actually make logistical sense. Everyone will realize this in time.

Here is what I wonder if the premier league is about 32 or so schools and if it is to be modeled similar to the NFL with 2 conferences with divisions, which I think is the case, then all the remnants will be about the same in number of about 33. Might Fox Sports and CBS potentially take the remnants and maybe even take a few top level current G5's and make them a league as well of similar model and we have the college version of the old AFL/NFL model. Just food for thought.

I surely hope not. I have no interest in that whatsoever. I don't want to watch Triple-A football. I damn sure don't want to watch Double-A.

I think it will go the opposite direction. You'll see the level below the Premier League expand access to the remainder of the Division I programs. It will be like FCS or Division II or Division III. You'll play your schedule in a regional conference to get into a real playoff (24-plus teams) and compete there with everyone.

The leftovers' best bet is to create contrast with the chosen ones, not mimic them. Let the bluebloods have their ****ty semipro league. The rest of us are returning to college football's glory days. Let the fans/market decide which is more fun in the long run.

What are the chances that ESPN "finds" a soft landing spot for the B12 dregs to tamp down litigation and delay?

They've already tried with the AAC. It wasn't soft enough for the invitees and they were slapped with a cease and desist order.
