They are putting in a three way stop at Lake Air and Hillcrest!

Maybe I'm the only one excited about this...

That is one of the most insane intersections.

Now if they could just fix that cluster %^&* at 41st (New Road) and Hillcrest. It's amazing there aren't wrecks there every day.

What killed the Lake Air/Hillcrest intersection is all of the people who work in Waco but live in China Spring. Once they figured out that going down Lake Air to Hillcrest to Lake Shore (and vice versa) was a shortcut, traffic got bad there.

China Spring and Hewitt are two of the worst planned areas I've ever seen regarding flow of traffic and accessibility.

It's unconscionable that there isn't a road directly to West from CS, but lo, there is not.

That was the only weird intersection in that area I could think of and was wondering if the OP was confused.

Anyone who's driven much in Europe can see that traffic circles would work really well in both those settings along Hillcrest. And Waco famously has one already, so it's a familiar and accepted concept culturally.

There is a traffic circle on Ritchie Road now out in Woodway/Hewitt.

Nobody here knows how to drive in a traffic circle. The circle at LaSalle is some kind of *******ized thing that is nothing like the rotaries in Massachusetts I remember from may days there. The LaSalle circle, in an attempt to improve safety has made it worse. But for circles to be effective, people have to know how to use them instinctively. Unless they do, circles are a good way to get killed.

People being uncomfortable with a strange new foreign concept has never stopped the government before from forcing it down average citizens throats.

Traffic circles are one of the few things that should have been forced on the public.

They are incredibly efficient. From 3,000 vehicles per hour and below they are far superior to 4 way stops. Over than number and its more even.

Also, less car accidents and less lethal for pedestrian traffic.

Really? Who has the speed on circles to die? Unless we're talking motorcycles and those people deserve it anyway.

That and making the Metric Conversion Act of 1975 stronger would've been great.

Yep the video shows how traffic circles work with human psychology...people instinctively slow down when coming up to circles and it makes them safer.

Also moving in one direction with traffic, and not turning in front of cars, cuts down on traffic accidents.

In just about every single way traffic circles are safer and more efficient.

Tell that to the jerks from Robinson that would fly through at 40+ every morning when I lived on that side of town.

I would always come to work down Hillcrest, then go home down MacArthur because the lake air/hillcrest intersection is essentially blind for the speed people drive and never bother to signal. If they would time the lights on 19th/18th/17th it would make it more convenient as well. I noticed they have out radar speed signs but three lights are still timed for 38mph...

You have apparently never been on a rotary in Massachusetts. Highway speeds (well 50mph at least) no look. You can't slow down or stop going in. Thats what people here do. They slow down entering the circle. That's what causes problems. The flow must continue.

The Richie/ Chapel circle works really well. It is much smaller than the 81/35/77 Circle, and everyone seems to do fine with it, It's perfect for the amount of volume carried through that intersection at this time.

lol no doubt.

No system where people are behind the wheel is perfect or 100% accident proof.

But roundabouts are statistically better.
