WACO, Texas – Baylor men's basketball will represent the United States at the inaugural GLOBL JAM, a partnership between Canada Basketball and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

The GLOBL JAM will be played July 5-10 in Toronto at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. The event will shine the international spotlight on the game’s rising stars and feature teams from the USA, Canada, Italy and Brazil competing in an Under-23 tournament.

“We are so honored to have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to represent the United States in international competition,” 20th-year Baylor head coach Scott Drew said. “This will be a terrific event with great teams from across the globe, and we are grateful to Canada Basketball and the NABC for making this tournament a reality.”

In addition to the men’s tournament, there will also be a women’s event in partnership with the WBCA. The women’s event features the USA, Canada, Belgium and France, with VCU representing the United States.

Recognized by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the GLOBL JAM men’s and women’s tournaments will feature pools of four teams competing in round-robin action July 5-8. Teams that advance to the semifinal round will meet on Saturday, July 9, followed by the Championship games on Sunday, July 10.

Baylor’s first game will be at 1 p.m. CT on July 5 against Italy. The Bears will then take on Canada at 8 p.m. on July 6 and will wrap up pool play against Brazil at 1 p.m. on July 7. Men’s semifinal games will be July 9 at 1 p.m. and 8 p.m., and the men’s Gold Medal Game is July 10 at 6 p.m.

Session passes (2 games) are on sale now via Ticketmaster. Additional ticket information, along with schedule and volunteer opportunities can be found at globljam.ca.

“The NABC is committed to growing the game of basketball on a global scale, and we’re excited to collaborate with Canada Basketball, the WBCA, Baylor and VCU for the inaugural GLOBL JAM,” said Craig Robinson, NABC Executive Director. “This new event will provide our sport with an impactful summer platform and offer a unique international competition experience for student-athletes and coaches alike.”

The Bears could return nine players from the 2021-22 Big 12 Championship squad, and they add three transfers along with two highly-ranked prep recruits. Adam Flagler, Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua, Flo Thamba, LJ Cryer, Dale Bonner, Zach Loveday, Langston Love, Jordan Turner and Austin Sacks can all return from last year's team.

Jalen Bridges joins the Bears after starting 33-consecutive Big 12 games at West Virginia over the last two seasons, and Caleb Lohner returns to his home state after playing 62 games in two years at BYU. They join JUCO All-American Dantwan Grimes, who led the Kilgore College Rangers to back-to-back NJCAA National Tournaments. McDonalds All-American Keyonte George heads to Baylor out of IMG Academy, and Nigeria native Joshua Ojianwuna will join the program out of the NBA Global Academy – Australia.

The extra practice time is worth it, as well as the extra exposure.

Will our new players be part of this? It really helps them in particular, adjusting to Baylor, fellow players and CSD.
