I think he's alluding to starting over Cryer for defensive purposes. I shouldn't speak for them though.IowaBear said:
Over who?? DB is greatly improved but he's not starting over Cryer, Flag or George. Those 3 are still a big step above DB

The award for most improved player from last year to now has to go to Dale Bonner (@dalebonne). He is far more aggressive through 3 games, and his hustle and intensity were on full display tonight, forcing 6 steals. #Baylor #SicEm pic.twitter.com/hrco8dYDQD

He is already looked at as a starter. In our system our top 8 guys are looked at as starters, so it truly doesn't matter which 5 are out there to begin the game.gobears20 said:
Just my opinion but if he keeps playing like this he needs to be looked at as a starter. He plays solid defense and gets others involved.
Amazing indeed.gobears20 said:

Side note: How is EJ doing? Is it likely he'll get to see the court this season?
I think that's the perfect role for him, and I'm basically the president of the Dale Bonner fan club on this board. I absolutely love the guy.Married A Horn said:
I kinda like him as a 6th man right now. A spark of hustle and he has shown the ability to create so far this year. Something to keep an eye on.
I've been saying this for a long time. Dale Bonner is the best defensive and passing guard on this team. He was last year, too.Married A Horn said:

Is there another program in America with two better player development success stories than Freddie Gillespie and Dale Bonner? If there is, I'd like to see it.gobears20 said:

Bonner was many things last year, but out of control was never really one of them. He had 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio and only averaged three field goal attempts per game. He struggled mightily with his 3-point shot, but he was a pretty effective player otherwise, especially for a guy jumping from Division II to the Big 12.Media Bear said:
In the words of Gunnery Sgt. Hartman in Full Metal Jacket, Dale Bonner is "born again hard" comparing last season to this.
At one point last season, I actually questioned a couple of times whether he was D1 material as he was so out of control -- and got very little blowback from it. Bur Dale is very much a changed player this season and it's been evident ever since the opening game of the Canadian series back in late summer.
Looking forward to seeing him progress even more this season as he has finally harnessed his speed/agility/decision making. As one pundit (I forget who) recently stated, Bonner is quite likely the fastest/quickest player in college hoops -- and there's still much upside to go.
On the contrary, he was out-of-control more often than not. This has become much less so as the game has slowed down for him. He was effective defensively, but a liability much of the rest of the time (with a couple of exceptions). He was thrust into action out of necessity -- before he was ready -- and it showed. This season is an entirely different deal for Dale altogether.bear2be2 said:Bonner was many things last year, but out of control was never really one of them. Out of control, how? He had the best turnover-to-minutes played ratio of any of our guards last year. He was among the best in assists-to-minutes played. And he wasn't an indiscriminate shooter, evidenced by his 50 percent FG percentage from inside the arc. He was a terrible 3-point shooter last year, but most of those he missed were decent looks. He got big eyes sometimes, but when I think of out-of-control players, I think of excessive turnovers and a lot of bad shots. Bonner has never really fit that bill.Media Bear said:On the contrary, he was out-of-control more often than not. This has become much less so as the game has slowed down for him. George is a really good passer, too. I think Bonner is a little ahead of him at this stage. For a guy playing primarily off the ball, Dale's assist numbers are ridiculous this season and they've been really good throughout his career. And like Keyonte, he creates for teammates without turning the ball over much at all.Crawfoso1973 said:Best passing guard? Keyonte says hi.bear2be2 said:I've been saying this for a long time. I'm interested to see how Dale performs this weekend against legit top 20 competition. He's played great so far but the competition can't be ignored. Having solid games against this weekends opponents could really launch Bonner into a fantastic 2nd season in Waco
