Interesting them talking about the lack of hype and national media coverage around Baylor as the defending national champion. They said it was because of being overshadowed by other big state schools in Texas and that Scott Drew wasn't well known enough. I think another reason is covid. Lots of casual fans attributed what happened last year in the entirety of college basketball to covid so they just chalked Baylor's national championship up as covid fluke.

trusty, no one who watched that game would have used the word "fluke" to describe the outcome. Gonzaga was thought by many to be one of the teams of the ages, and had Baylor squeezed out a narrow victory over an undefeated Zag team, the Covid aspect might have been used as an excuse, but to win by sixteen and total dominance from the two minute marker till the end put the Bears at #3 on the list of the National Champions of the past 25 years. The national commentary in the aftermath never used Covid as a factor, even though the vast majority of the commentators had thought that Gonzaga would win by double digits going into the game.

I just never understood the doubt surrounding that game. Yes on paper Gonzaga was a Goliath. But if you broke down the Bu Gonzaga matchup in depth you could see right away Baylor was going to be a nightmare matchup for them. Not going to break it all down as that'll take a good 5 minutes of typing. But any fan who watches basketball on a regular basis so that BU was a horrible matchup for the Zags

I agree with you that anyone who watched the national championship game or the entire season of Baylor would describe them as a dominant team in the history of college basketball. Of course the problem is that most people didn't watch many games.
