USA BASKETBALL 3X3
Sept 21, 2019

"A team of Sooners advanced in USA Basketball's 3x3 qualifying tournament after winning the South Regional in Atlanta, Ga. on Saturday. The team of Mandy Simpson, Gabby Gregory, Madi Williams and Taylor Robertson advanced to the USA Basketball 3X3 Nationals, which will be held in the spring as part of the qualification process for the 2020 Olympics.

After winning one of 22 national qualifying tournaments in San Antonio, Texas, last weekend, the Sooners went undefeated again on Saturday to win one of four Regionals. The victory gives them an automatic berth in the 3x3 Nationals, where 24 women's teams will compete for the national championship and a chance at representing USA Basketball in 3x3 at the 2020 Olympics.

The Sooners won a thriller in the championship game, defeating a group of athletes from James Madison, 21-18. Simpson clinched the victory with a game-ending layup off an assist from Gregory to punch their ticket to the 3x3 Nationals."

USA BASKETBALL 3X3
Sept 16, 2019

"Kansas State sent a four-woman squad to Queen College in New York City over the weekend and the Wildcats returned with some hardware, as the Red Bull USA Basketball 3X East Regional champions.

K-State was represented by senior Jasauen Beard, junior Rachel Ranke, sophomore Christianna Carr and redshirt freshman Ayoka Lee. The Wildcats captured Pool B play with a pair of wins. With the Pool B crown, K-State automatically advanced to the semifinals. The Wildcats then cruised through the semifinals and secured the title with a 21-10 win over Team Fordham, a delegation from Fordham University.

"The experience was surreal," said Jasauen Beard. "The way we played together was amazing, the outcome was amazing. Just the feeling of knowing we qualified for USA 3x3 Nationals and knowing that there is a chance we could play for Team USA in the Olympics is still unbelievable. I can honestly say that I am extremely thankful and proud of my team because hard work truly pays off."

DISMISSED FROM TEAM
Eternati Willock
Update

"Willock signed with Kansas State back in 2016 and was dismissed from the team in 2017.

Middle Tennessee State will be without of one of their top pickups from the offseason as junior center Eternati Willock is no longer on the team according to head coach Rick Insell.

"Unfortunately, things did not work out here for Eternati," Insell said. "We wish Eternati the best in her future endeavors."

She signed with MTSU back in April 2019 after she spent the season playing at New Mexico Junior College. With the Thunderbirds she averaged 12.5 points per game and 7.4 rebounds per game."

FORMER PLAYER
Destiny Littleton

Note Baylor will play South Carolina on November 30

"Littleton is waiting on an NCAA waiver to grant her immediate eligibility at South Carolina after she transferred from Texas this offseason. If she gets it, it seems likely she'll work her way into the rotation in some form or fashion. She's known as a pure scoring threat and could form a three-guard backcourt with Harris and Henderson or help lead the second unit.

But given the NCAA's often arbitrary and slow decision-making process, the Gamecocks can't count on having her by the start of the season."

2019 WNBA CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
Ariel Atkins

"You've got Ariel Atkins, who oh, man, I just love her game. LEFTY. I love it. In all seriousness, I don't think AA gets enough credit. She's a great defender, and takes on a tough challenge every night at that end, which is such a key role on a team like this. And she's an underrated shooter, too, the type of player where I think you'll see her percentages go up in the years to come. Ariel is a beast."

Coaches can't vote for their own teams. Conventional wisdom says Texas will come in second. A vote from an overwhelmingly chosen first place team's coach is basically saying to the team that receives her/his vote, "Hope you like seconds..."

Mutual respect.

But I think Baylor goes 18-0 in the conference again this year -- on their way to a National Championship repeat.

Yeah I just noticed that's exactly what happened according to those numbers

Why wouldn't they vote themselves second instead of last though?

My statement is faulty. Coaches can't vote for themselves, so there is "no vote" for their team from them. Nine votes with a value of 9 for first place 9 x 9 = 81
There has to be no vote for their own team - i.e. 0
So we don't know where they voted their own team.

Fun Fact

There are only five (5) current Big 12 players who have been on a team that has beaten the Lady Bears.

Holmes, Higgs, Sutton and Underwood at Texas; Martin at West Virginia.

Both games happened in LC's and Juicy's freshman year.

In their three years at Baylor, LC and Juicy are 61-2 against Big 12 teams.

ISU 0-7
KU 0-6
KSU 0-9
OU 0-6
OSU 0-6
TCU 0-7
UT 1-6
TT 0-8
WVU 1-6

Also, not every other coach voted Texas #2. With Mulkey's #1 vote, Texas would have totaled 73 points (8X8 + 1X9). Whereas, Baylor was a unanimous #1. 9X9.

All very true. Texas was not a unanimous #2 choice.

Actually Texas received 1 vote from Kim for 1st,
6 votes for 2nd place,
and 2 votes for 3rd place (6x8 + 2x7 + 1x9) = 71

West Virginia received the other three 2nd place votes (6x7 + 3x8) = 66
