I think it is a tough place for everyone to play, because (West Virginia coach) Mike (Carey) does such a great job with his team and the atmosphere here is really good. But I think the way we opened the game was really important. It gave us a great shot and built our confidence. I think we had a little let up in the third quarter, but I was proud about how we regained our composure, and we were able to stop their run. (redshirt senior guard) Tynice Martin and (senior guard) Lucky Rudd, they definitely got a really special group, (redshirt freshman center) Rochelle Norris as well, in that senior class. What Tynice has done in this league is to be commended, and I know we'll all get a chance to get her to watch her play at that next level."
On the gratification of finishing second in the Big 12 after being the preseason rank of No. 8 "Well honestly, and I know this is kind of coach speak, but we didn't talk about preseason. We never, ever, ever talk about it. What is most important to us is definitely letting our work do the talking. Our work, and our chemistry, and our culture dictate what kind of season that we will have. I felt like this team just really locked in on each other all season, and we've tried to constantly turn down noise, turn down distractions, never find a complacency and I think that helped us a lot along the way."
On junior guard Lauren Heard being in the Big 12 player of the year conversation "Well, I think there are so many great players in the Big 12, so to be in discussion of that means that you're one of the top players in the country, and I think what you guys get to see, the stats and the performance and Lauren's ability in the offensive end. But she's one of the best two-way players in our league, on both ends of the floor what she does and how she impacts the game. Honestly, she's one of the best leaders. She's got great leaders around her. She holds herself to a really high standard, which is great leadership, and she makes my job as her head coach really, really easy."
