I believe that makes 4 coaches leaving in less than 9 months. Very rare.

Albeit 2 of them were "mutually parted ways" during the season last year.

Yes I guess I should have made that clearer. I didn't think about specifically stating that two left and two mutually parted ways. I guess I just assumed that we all knew that the two who parted ways also left.

Appreciate their service! Change can be a chance to bring in a new team and step up expectations. May be a blessing to all involved.

I know some zealot is gonna get on here and say "how dare you, you Nicki hater!"...

But, yeah, I find these 4 sudden departures concerning. I don't have the first clue what is going on, or who is at fault, or if anyone is at fault. But it's hard not to see this and think something behind the scenes isn't right.

The coaches seemed grateful to both Baylor and Coach Nicki in their messages. Both of these departures seem amicable at least and don't carry the tone of someone being unhappily forced out or leaving on bad terms.

There is certainly a story here. I can't imagine that the two leaving on the same day isn't connected somehow.

That's not to say it's necessarily something negative or that we should automatically be concerned. The world is changing and we shouldn't assume that what this may have signaled 10 or even 5 years ago is the same thing it would signal now. It could be as simple as both of them having decided to depart independently of each other and the WBB comms folks asking them to do it at the same time to minimize the perception of a "slow leak." It could be as simple as them both being miserable in their roles, which is highly unlikely given the tone of their posts (especially Tari's).

Given how tightly CNC runs her ship, I doubt we'll find out soon or ever. The only indication we may get is whether we lose any players in the coming weeks.

Transfer portal closed on April 23. The only way the transfer portal opens up is if a head coach is gone at this point.

It could be that their contracts ended at same time. Both departures seem very amicable. Nicki also posted very nice messages about both.

I also initially thought something was going on and it was strange they both left same day but that could be result of contracts ending. In both cases, I think they left to have more family time. Tati recently got married and Sophia has 2 young children.

I really appreciated both Tari and Sophia's time at Baylor. Life will sometimes take you in a different direction. Sophia has children and she might feel fortunate to be able to spend time with them. Tari got married. I do agree that most university contracts end May 31st, which may have resulted in the announcements being made on the same day. I don't believe the sky is falling.
Great human beings and I wish them all the best.

Why they left is not as important. We will never know since Coach N keeps things close to the vest. What matters is that we lost 4 assistant coaches within a year, while the head coach is still there. This is rare, highly unusual. This is a big question mark for me and very concerning. Some recruits and transfers come because of assistant coaches. Coach Baker recruited transfer Taliah Scott.

And then Baylor hired her previous coach who also brought in Deng. And some come just because they want to come to a program and of course, some assistant coach will have to be involved in their coming. It says nothing as to whether the recruit came because of the assistant coach or the assistant coach was just the role player to help them get to where they wanted to be because that was part of their job. I think ultimately a player comes because of the head coach because if they do not trust the head coach they would be stupid to come regardless of who "recruits" them.

I don't know why Internet boards create every conspiracy theory in the world, regardless of the topic. Perhaps these coaches saw there was going to be a greater commitment to the program required than they were wanting to give because of family choices. Perhaps they felt it was time their spouses' careers took higher priority. For every negative conspiracy theory there is also a positive. It is pointless and unfair to all parties involved to speculate in manners that raise doubt on the program or the individuals involved when there are no known facts to support it.

Heck, Aranda was throwing out coaches right and left and it at least appears that we are in much better shape because he did.

In Aranda's case, it appears that throwing Bohanon under the bus in 2022 and not putting more faith in Robertson in 2023 (once that season started going sideways) is what contributed to him being on the hot seat more than anything.

Had he stuck with Bohanon in 2022 and/or rolled with Robertson after Shapen started the 2023 season injured, there might not have been much staff movement.

But that's a conversation for another day (and the football board).

The coach & staffer who left during last season was a situation similar to the Wilson situation during the 2018/2019 season…..the decision came from higher above and was due to a clear violation of Baylor (as opposed to WBB) policies.

Sometimes people do dumb stuff and termination is a foregone conclusion.

You have every right to your opinion, and I respect it. But you can't downplay my concerns. I'm only talking about WBB, not FB. Every person in our families is asking what in the world is going on. Suspicions and red flags went up when 4 assistants left in the same season. As I said before, this rarely happens when a head coach is still there. Our families have supported our WBB and donated to WBB every year for 30 years since 1990s. Our families donated a lot of $$ into the program for 30 years so we are deeply invested in it. We have every right to be concerned when something like this happens. Even contributors like our families are kept in dark with no explanation whatsoever. We trust Coach N, but this definitely raises concerns.

Then since your family is so invested then you understand that the two during the season were told they could leave or be fired. Completely different situation

You keep repeating four coaches which is incorrect.

Three coaches are gone: Edwards, Cummings & Young
Ray was a recruiting coordinator/NIL Image guru

WBB retained two assistant coaches, already hired Harris (home run hire) and now has two spots to grab top level assistants who may (or may not) bring along a top player.

The whole The Sky is Falling because change is occurring drama is funny. Change always occurs. Harris was a big upgrade from Edwards. From a money perspective, clearly the recent changes were known since the end of the season and that is why Baylor can afford Harris. Greene handles the D and Collen handles the O. The changes are not impacting schemes. They will impact recruiting, player development, and scouting. Clearly some of those areas can use some help.

Tari and Sophia left voluntarily. In Sophia's post she said she is "pressing pause to be more present for her family ". Tari recently married and mentioned her husband in announcement. There are NO red flags on either side to indicate this was anything other than a very amicable separation by both Sophia and Tari. You don't write announcements like they did if something is going on "behind the scenes". Nicki also posted extremely positive comments about both online.

Sophia and Tari basically said in their announcements why they are leaving. Not sure what else people want to know…….

who do we go for to fill these roles? i could see one player being someone in the WNBA especially in that role that Sophia was in. Have a focus on player development especially during the fall time. But the assistant needs to be filled quick because of this being major recruiting time.

NC is respectful of the privacy of the departing coaches and is allowing them to explain their own narrative and the level of detail they wish to share. Personnel and Human Resource decisions should never be aired in public. The departing coaches have social media and are capable of communicating on their own behalf. These are grinding jobs and change is constant and inevitable. No conspiracy here, though everyone seems more than willing to pull a false fire alarm. Drama is food for the bored.
