Think he has given a lot to Tech and his HS.
Wonder if trying to buy a national championship in softball was part of his efforts? Hate to root for UT, but I am certainly glad UT beat Tech for the championship yesterday. Softball is likely the easiest and cheapest sport to buy a championship. You only need a pitcher that no one can hit and a couple of hitters. The rest can be average and you can still go far.
It showed yesterday though what happens when you rely on that pitcher too much and when she gives out you got nothing. Guess they'll go out and buy another $1M pitcher to go along with the one they have for next year. Some school that does that, especially when they have been an also ran at a national level for their entire history really puts an asterisk on any championship they get, or at least it should. It is sad that college sports have come to this state. I guess since they have seen what they can do in softball, is WBB next?
I feel for our coaches in women's sports, especially in WBB because the expectations, dare I say demands, of some fans to roll along as if we were still in the 20-teens, need to be measured against what resources our side has to compete against such teams as a Tech in softball that seemingly has unlimited funds to go buy players at the highest level. I don't care what talents you may have at coaching, if you don't have the dollars to at least be in the ball park, you are not going to get the roster your coaching talents and school history would otherwise indicate were paying players still illegal.
If NIL and free agency continues unchecked in any manner, college athletics will be dead to many previous fans.
