Really fun evening! The snafu with Bush's not showing up with the chicken made the food service interesting, but in a loaves and fishes kind of way, there was plenty for everyone! (The dirty rice was a hit, as it had beef and sausage in it, some of the only meat! But if you liked Mac 'n Cheese or baked beans, you were in luck!
)
New broadcast team emceed the event. Will take some getting used to and they certainly aren't as smooth and polished as a team yet as Rick and Lori, but considering how many years those two were together, they were pretty seamless. I think this crew will get there quickly and be really great to listen to....
They called Dr. Hickey up and had a cute little Lady Bear quiz (What is the only school to have 12 stars but only one Moon/ What is Kim Mulkey's favorite breakfast drink? a) Apple juice b) orange juice c) Juicy Landrum...you get the drift!)
As mentioned earlier, Kim turned over the mic to the new men's tennis coach after introducing him and his wife and mentioning his four children!
BTW, said McKenzie and Clay were expecting their new arrival next week and joked there was no need to get in dessert line, McKenzie had already been through.
Coach Kim greeted everyone, introduced her staff, coaches (Johnny was home sick...get better, sir!) managers, Dream Team, and then the players. Good looking group of athletes. We were at back, so several of the players ate at our table and most were sitting at the tables around us. Very polite young women.
Joel Allison and Mack Rhoades were there and were introduced.
Kim went over the 7 "tenets" or goals the team gets every year in their notebooks, then said each year, each team gets three goals specific to that team. This year's team tenets:
The older, experienced players must lead the younger players
The younger players must contribute, and soon.
No off the court issues.
After that saw a quick video of the trip to Italy, followed by a slideshow of the players individually. First couple of shots were their individual publicity shots in uniform, then candid shots of them working out (doing rope drill was a popular theme!) and then "dressy" casual shots posed around campus. Those were fun to see as it expressed a side to the players that those of us not close to the program rarely get to see....
Closed with a plea again for season ticket holders to buy just one more season ticket, if possible...
First time to go; really enjoyed it!
