"Deb Patterson, who won 350 games and advanced to nine NCAA Tournaments in a storied coaching career at Kansas State, has joined the staff of Washington State's women's basketball program in the newly created post of director of player personnel and program analytics. The move reunites Patterson with her former associate head coach at K-State -- second-year WSU head coach Kamie Ethridge.
Patterson helmed K-State's program for 18 seasons, with Ethridge on staff for all them. When Patterson was let go by AD John Currie after the 2013-14 campaign, Ethridge took the head coaching job at Northern Colorado and Patterson joined her as an assistant coach for one season and then director of basketball operations - a post she held through this past season.
The Patterson-Ethridge coaching connection goes all the way back to 1989, when both were assistant coaches at Northern Illinois. Both later were assistants at Vanderbilt before the long run at Kansas State.
At K-State, Patterson
- posted nine 20-win seasons
- won two Big 12 titles
- earned 13 post-season appearances; and
- produced 10 AP All-Americans
Patterson's 2001-02 Wildcats advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tourney -- and one of the players on that squad was current WSU associate head coach Laurie Koehn. Patterson was a national coach of the year finalist four times at K-State. The last five years of her tenure there overlapped with WSU President Kirk Schulz's time as KSU president. She is a native of Rockford, Ill., and a 1979 graduate of Rockford College."
