Baylor 59 vs South Carolina 74

QUOTE Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey
"It's hard to compete without your leader," referring to All-American forward Lauren Cox, sidelined with a stress fracture in her right foot since the first week of the season.

"The fight was there; I've never questioned our fight. We just didn't do things. We're just doing all we can until (Cox) comes back. It was a nip and tuck basketball game. We made some mental mistakes. Youve got a bunch out there that are new, and you've got to keep coaching them. As long as the effort is there, you can live with it. But we will be better when Cox comes back."

QUOTE South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley
"When you're playing in any game, you've got to be able to make more big plays than the other team. What we were able to do was convert. We were real deliberate who we wanted to have the ball and where we wanted the shots to come from.

"What was helpful for us was that we got in the bonus really early in the fourth quarter, so we knew everything was going to be downhill. We weren't going to take as many jump shots, and we were going to attack the rim. We were really consistent in doing that, and it didn't give them any space to recover."

Young players are going to have ups and downs. This team has yet to develop it's missing Cox persona.

Also from the SC website... A not so subtle dig at Cooper.

For Baylor, Smith had 18 points and 10 rebounds. Cooper had, well, the same type of game she had most of last season. She scored ten points, but shot just 3-13 and turned it over six times.

Stash it away for later in the season.

The slight dig at Cooper was not gratuitous. She did not play well and that was one of the decisive elements of the game, though just one among several. Because of her position and the minutes allotted to her, she has to be better than that as a Lady Bear if the team is to advance far in the post season tournament, and she has to do it in the schemes employed by Coach Mulkey.

Totally agree. She tried to do to much and when she did not get the calls and her shots did not fall I think she let it affect her mentally and she punted - can't do that and be a leader and a go to gal if you let no calls and shots not falling affect your game.
At SC it was status quo for her - lets see what happens under Mulkey - I am betting we see a different Cooper when Big 12 starts - that's why she came here - to learn from one of the best PG to play the game, to be challenged, to play for championships. Kim will get her focus back and stoke a little fire for later. I am sure Kim already has the SC website comments cut out and posted on the chalk board

Boston is really really good and with her being from the island, this was pretty much a home game for her. I feel Smith made it personal with Boston and it took her and the bears out of their rhythm. Smith had 18 points but took 22 shots to get that.

Not sure what was going on with Richards. She looked to be out of it the whole game, hope all is well with her, but she definitely didn't look herself.

I feel Cooper made the game personal to an extent. Luckily this loss was early and now they can learn from it.

They definitely missed Cox
