Apparently he passed away unexpectedly on Jan 24th

This is such sad news. Please keep his family in your prayers.

Steven was a great player, but even better kid off the field. Travelling with the team back then to watch them dominate was fun. His game against LSU on a Friday night in Baton Rouge was one of the greatest games pitched by any Bear.

Prayers to him, his family, friends, and former teammates.

LSU fans gave him a standing ovation for his performance that night. This makes me sad.

BATON ROUGE, La. - No. 10 Baylor scored three runs in the eighth to break open a 1-1 tie and beat 7th-ranked LSU 4-1 Friday night in the first game of a best-of-three NCAA Super Regional.

Senior starter Steven White (9-4), a fourth-round pick earlier this week in the Major League draft, pitched eight gutty innings for the win, allowing just one run. White struck out nine, walked two and scattered seven hits. The victory was the 28th of White's career, tying him with Burl Coker (1975-78) for the school record.

He got SOOOO close to the big leagues in 2006-2007. Just one DL stint by a big leaguer away.

Very sad. Anyone know the cause of death?

Steven White's Mom Brenda White died young as well. At the age of 47 in 2003, just a month or two after the Baylor/LSU Super Regional discussed above.

Brenda was a good friend of mine.
We talked via E-mail regularly.
I made sure she always had a seat in my box.
She always made nice comments of how much she appreciated my humor and candor.
She was just a genuine, nice, little lady.
"Those are some bad dudes. Why was she around those guys?"
