Semis on the track now. Trey is in Heat 3. The Jams are the overwhelming favorites. Trey will run in Lane 3, just inside the World U20 leader, Christopher Taylor (JAM), who has run 44.88 this year.

Heat 1
Sacoor (BEL) wins the first heat in 45.72 which is a BEL NR, while Sawyers (JAM) cruises in 2nd 46.19 for the second auto qualifying spot. Krsek (CZE) was third in a CZE NU20R of 46.59, while Silva (BRA) is on the qualifying bubble after getting 4th in 46.74.

Heat 2
Scotti (ITA) made a furious close to win the heat in 45.84, an ITA NU20R. Jones (BAR) also closed well in a long and easy drive to get 2nd and qualify for the final in 46.22. Misener-Daley (CAN) ran aggressively from the gun and held on for third in 46.53 and move Krsek to the bubble. Unmajesty Williams (USA) was fourth in the heat, and his 46.72 was not good enough to qualify on time. Williams got out quickly, but was unable to make a move on Misener-Daley.

Heat 3
The favorite, Taylor (JAM) won in an easy 46.18 to qualify for the final. Stewart-Baynes (CAN) outfinished Baylor's Trey Fields (USA) to get second and the auto qualifying spot in 46.38. Trey's third place time of 46.53 was just fast enough to tie CAN's Misener-Daley (Trey was actually a little faster 46.524 to 46.526) for the time qualifying spot and he will run for the World U20 Championship tomorrow at 12:35 PM CT.

Thanks for the report, Malbec. Making the world finals is a nice accomplishment for Trey and it seems like it'll be a loaded field.

Jonathon Sacoor (BEL) broke the Belgian National Record for the second straight day to win the World Under 20 Championship in the 400M with his winning time of 45.03. Jamaicans Christopher Taylor (45.38) and Chantz Sawyers (45.89) took the silver and bronze. Baylor's Trey Fields (USA) was 5th in 46.53.

Fields will be a part of the Team USA 4X400 that runs in the Heats starting tomorrow at 12:31PM CT.

Looks like Sacoor is already better than all the Borlee brothers of Belgium.

Baylor's Trey Fields anchored Team USA to a silver medal in 2018 World Under 20 Track & Field Championships in Tampere, Finland today. Italy won the race in 3:04.05 over the favored Americans after the exchange between USA leadoff runner Elijah Godwin and second leg Nicholas Ramey was botched and the baton fell to the track, wasting Godwin's outstanding 45.50 leg. Ramey went out hard in an effort to make up ground, but emptied the tank and handed off to third leg Justin Robinson in 5th place. Robinson closed the gap on the leaders and Fields took the baton trailing Great Britain and Italy. Fields took aim at GRB's Alex Knibbs with 120 meters to go and passed the Brit coming home to finish 2nd in a time of 3:05.26. Great Britain got the bronze in 3:05.64.

Bummer that a dropped stick cost Trey and the USA a gold.
