Does Quartermiler U need a name update? Baylor SO K C Lightfoot broke his own school record in the Bears' season-opening indoor meet; clearing 18' 8 1/4" (tops in the nation), to earn Field Athlete of the Meet at the Larry Wieczorek at the University of Iowa. BU went 1-2-4 in the MPV as SO Riley Richards took the runner-up spot at 17' 2 3/4" and SO Reese Sarnowski shattered his personal best with his 16' 10 3/4" to get fourth.

The great vaulting display didn't end with the men. JR Tuesdi Tidwell set a personal best and broke the meet and stadium record, clearing 14' 3 1/4", the 4th best jump in the nation that earned Tidwell the Female Field Athlete of the Meet honors. FR Mackenzie Hayward burst onto the scene with her second-place leap of 13' 5 1/4 to instantly make her the #3 indoor pole vaulter in school history.

But... as the old coach says... not so fast my friend! JR Trey Fields sparked the quartermilers, running 47.11 to win the men's 400, then anchored the 4X400 to victory as they won in 3:09.89.

There were a number of other outstanding performances as well, with JR Jalen Seals setting a personal indoor best of 51' 11 3/4" to get third in the men's triple jump. JR Alex Madlock recorded the nation's 6th best mark to win the women's triple jump in 42' 7" and JR Kennedy Bailey set a personal best of 8.25 to win the women's 60M hurdles.

A great season-opener for the Bears! They will compete in the Texas A&M Invitational next weekend.
