TLDR: they cannot find witnesses to the incident now:

" The Cougar Chronicle has been unable to find a source in the student section that can corroborate Richardson's claim of racial slurs being yelled at her. Vera Smith, a BYU student in the student section during the game, said she "heard absolutely nothing" that could be taken as a racial slur. Jacob Hanson, also a BYU student, shared texts with the Cougar Chronicle from two friends in two different parts of the student section that also heard nothing. They said they were not aware there had been a problem until after the game. Maddy Johnson, another BYU student who was in the ROC student section, said she did not hear any racial slur said and when she saw the individual escorted out of the arena he was in a different section. A mother of a BYU student says she personally knows five people who were in the student section during the game "One person was on the court and the others were in the first row" she told the Chronicle. None of them heard a racial slur. Two other people on the court, who wish to remain anonymous, did not hear any racial slurs…"

I am no BYU fan by any measure, but the Duke player's godmother is apparently running for office in Tarrant County. Sounds like a developing story because most news sources bought this hook, line and sinker, including the Washington Post.

There's also video of the match and at no time does an office sit on the Duke bench.

The state of Utah is a soft target for claims of racism, partly because of Jazz fans conduct at their games and partly because the state is so white and Mormon that people are culturally clueless about their conduct.

Y'all are joking right? The incident occurred in front of everyone there. They spoke to the person and the person has been banned from athletic events.

So no other player or coach for either team reacted at all in hearing all these "racial slurs" that were being hurled toward Ms. Smollett? Seems rather odd

" Another relation, Rachel's godmother Lesa Pamplin, drew attention to the story before Richardson's statement by Tweeting "While playing yesterday [my Goddaughter] was called a n***** every time she served. She was threatened by a white male that told her to watch her back going to the team bus." According to her Twitter account, Pamplin is an attorney and a current candidate for a Fort Worth judicial election. Pamplin even claimed credit for making the story national news in an official campaign statement on the incident. "We should be even more outraged that it took a Tweet from me, in Tarrant County Texas…".

" Pamplin has been involved with race politics for some time. Previous Tweets include "If you're White you totally wouldn't understand," and "Why does @CNN consistently interview these dumb a** white women," and "being married to a white woman he thinks he can talk this stupid a** nonsense. Clarence 2.0." Her Twitter was made private after these Tweets began circulating."

___friom the story.

they removed the fan that was accused of saying the word.

Quote:

The Chronicle spoke with several sources who claimed that the banned fan who has yet to be identified by BYU athletics director Tom Holmoe did not yell a racial slur before getting escorted out of the game. Instead, the fan was escorted out due to "interfering with guests" rather than for shouting derogatory terms at Richardson.

And yet no evidence exists...

Where are the people that were next to the fan shouting it coming forward for their 15 minutes of fame?

Or any of the other things that claimed to have happened?

The whole story is BS most likely. Do you really think Ms. Smollett's teammates/coaches would just sit there and not say or do anything?

She says after the 2nd set, she told a teammate, then her coach, then the officials, who talked to BYU staff. There is evidence of that in this video.

Does that look like a reaction of an administrator just being told of racism? It didn't even warrant a moment of breaking stride to tell the tale.

That's deceptive video by ESPN. The official is talking to 2 BYU coaches, not any administrative staff. They could have been talking about a call on the court.

Also, they made the "raucous" student section seem plain evil for cheering and being loud.

Whether it's true or not, that ESPN simply farted out this lazy 6-minute Zoom interview of an alleged racially-charged incident at a game with no other interviews or perspectives or voices with some useless b-roll footage tacked on is malpractice at best.

Racially focused stories are cultural molotov cocktails that require a heightened level of attention journalistically. This was a segment meant to convey a message before they even started the interview.

I don't know either. Unfortunately, it happens sometimes.

I also don't know the advantage or purpose of doing what has been alleged. Unfortunately, that also happens sometimes.

Because we teach and embrace victimhood in this society. You get rewarded with little to no consequence.

What happened to Bubba Wallace after his hoax? Jussie Smollet got a touch more than a slap on the wrist, but still got off lightly.

I knew the Jussie story was complete BS from the get-go. This smells like another hoax. You don't have to be a conspiracy factist to use a little common sense.

Honestly, have you been paying attention? Today's most valuable currency is victimization. A no-name volleyball player just became a celebrity for a day and got attention and love from ESPN. There have been more racial hoaxes than actual incidents in the last 10 years and it is not even close. Basic common sense easily explains in 2022 the odds of a Gen Zer yelling racial slurs in public vs. a person making it up ...

Don't forget the scenario where she heard something different than what was actually said. I know this happens often. I'm married. And it can happen with only 2 people present and the only noise is the sound of suffering.

They banned an innocent person.

Police confirm that no one heard that person yell anything.

Because the demand for racism exceeds the actual supply.

And what is the fastest way for a young black girl, who comes from a family that dislikes white people, to get attention and sympathy from the media and her fellow students? Cry racism.

As for the "fan":

"After the game, (Officer) Laursen wrote, he was told by a BYU Athletics officials that the Duke team insisted that comments continued to be made, even during the fourth set of the match, and that they felt the officer did nothing to stop it.

"I told the Athletic staff that I never heard one racial comment being made," Laursen wrote."

"The fan who was ultimately accused of using racial slurs was sitting in the student section, and Laursen interacted with him during the match, the officer wrote in his police report. Laursen identified the fan as likely having special needs."

"Later, the officer wrote, he reviewed game footage with a BYU volleyball coach, but there was nothing to indicate the fan did anything inappropriate."

That's right: the accused "racist" in this case was apparently a "special needs" person.
