Authorities have a suspect in custody in the Nov. 13 killing of four University of Idaho students, a high-ranking law enforcement source tells Fox News Digital.

Local police and the FBI took the suspect into custody at 3 a.m. in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Arrest paperwork filed in Monroe County, Pennsylvania identifies the suspect as 28-year-old Bryan Christopher Kohberger. He is being held for extradition.

Kohberger is a graduate student at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, according to the college's website. Pullman is a 15-minute drive from the rental home where the four students were stabbed to death.

For background: In Moscow, Idaho, Ethan Chapin, 20; Xana Kernodle, 20; Kaylee Goncalves, 21; and Madison Mogen, 21, were stabbed to death in a rental home just yards from campus.

Police say two surviving female roommates, who lived on the basement level, slept through the attack.

Law enforcement sources told CNN that his DNA was discovered at the scene of the crime with officers managing to track down who owned the car seen in the area of the slayings.

Authorities then discovered that he had left the area and traveled to Pennsylvania, where an FBI surveillance team had been tracking the 6ft tall man.

He was kept under surveillance, with the FBI watching him for four days, while investigators from Moscow Police and Idaho State Police worked to get an arrest warrant.

Remember folks. Innocent until proven guilty.

Not much detail here to be calling to hang him yet. Let's get more than:

1. Lived close
2. DNA at house (are there innocent reasons for this?)
3. Studied Criminology
4. Drives white Hyundai Elantra
5. Is 6 ft tall

Edit:

6. After struggling with weight issues, Kohberger reportedly became an extremely strict vegan, to the point that he insisted his family toss out any pots that had previously been used to cook meat.
7. Kohberger is a registered Libertarian.

He's definitely guilty. Never mind.

Innocent until proven guilty.

That said, Kohberger initiated a study asking criminals to discuss their decision process and emotions while committing their crime shortly before this crime was committed.

One awful fact about this crime is that two other female roommates were in the house when the murders were committed. They were on the ground floor of a 3-story townhouse & the murders occurred on the 2 upper floors. https://abcnews.go.com/US/idaho-murders-2-surviving-roommates-break-silence/story?id=94477961

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/crime/bryan-kohberger-idaho-murders-suspect-student-research-b2253756.html

As police records revealed that criminology student Bryan Kohberger had been arrested in Scranton, Pennsylvania, in connection with the November stabbing deaths of the students, it emerged just six months ago he had sought input from former criminals to understand their decision-making processes.
He also wanted to know how they felt throughout the experience

"Hello, my name is Bryan and I am inviting you to participate in a research project that seeks to understand how emotions and psychological traits influence decision-making when committing a crime," he wrote in May in a post, since deleted, on Reddit.

"In particular, this study seeks to understand the story behind your most recent criminal offense, with an emphasis on your thoughts and feelings throughout your experience."

The survey was anonymous, and according to the Daily Mail, questions included - "Did you prepare for the crime before leaving your home?", "Why did you choose that victim or target over others?", and "What was the first move you made to accomplish your goal?".

He also asked: "After committing the crime, what were you thinking and feeling?"

I'm not sure if true, but I read that his DNA was matched to the scene by the authorities using DNA from his relatives through a national database (think 23 and me, ancestry.com etc). While I'm glad they got him, one needs to remember that sending your genetic info to these places means your genetic code is no longer private or secure.

Idaho murders suspect Bryan Kohberger's DNA was found on knife sheath lying next to one of the victims' bodies: Cops stole trash from his family home to make 99% match - before swooping in to arrest him, case files reveal

Idaho police today released a trove of documents which lays out the early stages of their case against Bryan Kohberger.

Among the claims in the documents is that his DNA was found on a knife sheath that was left next to one of the bodies, and that he stalked the property by visiting 12 times before the night in question.
The knife sheath was tan, leather, US Marines sheath that was found next to the corpse of Maddie Mogen, according to the documents.

Kohberger's DNA was found on the snap button enclosure of the sheath, and was later positively identified to match him.

Cops obtained a sample of his DNA on December 27, when they stole trash from his family's house in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania.

That sample returned a 99.98 percent match with the sample found at the scene to Kohberger's father.
The 19-page affidavit also lays out how cops used surveillance camera footage from Kohberger's campus apartment in Washington State to track the movements of his white Hyundai Elantra on the night in question.

It also reveals that surviving roommate Dylan Mortensen was awake at the time of the killings - around 4.20am - and that she saw Kohberger in the house, wearing a black mask over his face.

Yes. I read a surviving roommate was frozen in fear as the assailant walked past her.

So, I also read that police were called at like 11:30 the next morning to respond to an unconscious person. It's not adding up.

Surviving roommate of the Idaho murders, Dylan Mortensen, Came Face-to-Face With Bryan Kohberger - FOX3 Now

Quote:

Authorities were informed by the roommate, who went by the name of Dylan Mortensen, that she heard "crying" coming from Xana Kernodle's room and overheard a man say, "I'm going to help you."

D.M. was initially awakened by the noises of victim Kaylee Goncalves playing with her dog in one of the upstairs bedrooms at 4 a.m. on the night of the murders.

A short while later, according to court documents, the surviving roommate claimed she overheard someone say, "There's someone here."

Authorities were informed by the roommate that she peered out of her bedroom but did not notice anyone else present.

After hearing what she described as "sobbing" coming from Xana's bedroom, the witness once again opened her door and heard a male voice say something along the lines of "it's okay, I'm going to help you."

D.M. swung her door open for the third time as she continued to hear screams coming from the corridor. At that moment, she went into a state of shock after seeing what she described as a "masked man in black clothing" in the hallway.

The woman, who was described by detectives as being in a "frozen shock phase," reported to them that the masked suspect strolled past her and headed toward the back sliding door of the house.

After that, the surviving roommate shut the door and locked herself inside.

Investigators were able to link Kohberger to the crime scene because his cell phone pinged near the residence and they found a "tan leather knife sheath" lying next to the victim Madison Mogen's bed. Madison was the person who was murdered.

The garbage was found in the residence of the Kohberger family in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania, on December 27, 2017, after the police had narrowed their focus on Kohberger as a possible suspect.
The next day, an Idaho laboratory revealed a DNA profile recovered from the garbage, and another DNA profile retrieved from the sheath identified a person as not being excluded as the biological father of the suspect. Both of these DNA profiles were obtained from the trash.

The affidavit also contains other disturbing details, such as the fact that the suspect is said to have gone to the house where the murders took place a total of twelve times beginning in June of 2022.

According to the records filed in the case, the visits occurred either late in the evening or very early in the morning.

At approximately 4:17 a"m., a security camera located at I 112 King Road, a residence irunediately to the northwest of 1122 King Road, picked up distorted audio ofwhat sounded like voices or a r,rrhimper followed by a loud thud. A dog can also be heard barking numerous times starting at 4:17 a-m. The security carnera is less than fifty feet from the west wall ofKernodle's bedroom. D.M. shted she oper.ed her door for the third time after she heard the crying and mw a figue clad in black clothing and a mask that covered the person's mouth and nose walking towards her. D.M. described the figure as 5' I 0" or taller, male, not very muscular, but athletically built with bushy eyebrows. The male walked past D.M. as she stood in a "frozen shock phase." The male walked towards the back sliding glass door. D.M. locked herself in he

rcom after seeing the male. D.M. did not stete that slrc recognized the male. This leads investigators to believe that the murderer left the scene. The combination of D.M.'s statements to law enforrmnt, reviews of forensic doumloads ofrecords ftom B.F. and D.M.'s phone, and video ofa suspect video as described below leads investigators to believe the homicides occurred between 4:00 a.m. and 4:25 am.

Summary from WaPo:
Investigators looking for the killer of four University of Idaho students assembled an array of evidence that led them to their suspect: DNA on a knife sheath found at the scene, surveillance footage that captured a white sedan like his circling the neighborhood, cellphone tower records showing that his phone had visited the area before and, perhaps most chilling of all, the testimony of a roommate who saw a figure clad in black clothing in the house on the night of the murders.

As far as going to Moscow multiple times, the suspect could easily say he enjoyed shopping/eating at the places in Moscow. It is only a 10mile difference, like driving between Frisco and Plano.

But the evidence on the night of the crime is more incriminating.
