180+ Republican House members voted for McCarthy. That means approximately 42 did not vote for him. Less than 25% of the Republican conference will dictate to the majority.
To be fair, that's exactly what the Never Trumpers did in 2020 and 2022, is it not?

In the election of a Speaker?
I was referring to your consternation that a minority of Republicans are trying to dictate to the majority regarding who should be leader. Wouldn't that same adage aptly apply to the Never Trumpers - a small minority of the Republican Party attempting to hold the majority hostage by threatening in essence to burn the house down if Trump (or his candidates) are either nominated or elected?
You are comparing the voting patterns of moderate Republican and Independents to 19 Republicans in a Speaker election. They are vastly different things.
I don't care if you guys block McCarthy. He made the trip to Mar a Lago to kiss the ring after Jan 6. He has been rolled by the so-called Freedom Caucus; what will liberals do to him?
In the general election moderates and Independents aren't blocking the election of an executive branch officer, they're just not voting for your preferred candidate. I'm not holding anyone hostage for my vote. You guys nominate candidates and I'll consider them. I'm not asking for anything.
You are a small minority of vocal Republicans who, instead of coming together for the good of the party and attempting to find a way to co-exist, are instead either outright supporting Democrats or at the very least financially supporting candidates who attempt to get Dems elected because you loathe the potential Republican nominee for president. In short, like the Freedom Caucus, you are small minority that is willing to blow up the party if you don't get your nominee.
I'm not a Republican and I don't give a damn about your party or the other party. I am Never Trump & I'll be voting in the Republican primary. I'll support a Democrat when you guys nominate a Paxton or someone similar.
I probably am a small minority so why do you care?
Case in point, right here. Call yourself whatever you want, but you just made my case for me.

What case? I might plead guilty?
That you and the NT's share the exact same attributes and are doing the same thing as the minority of Republicans you in Congress you've complained about. The rigidity and willingness to blow it up, as expressed in your last post, is my case in point.

You guys just aren't meant to govern, just complain

Lol. From the guy whose preferred candidate for Speaker could not get the votes after three attempts.
I don't have a preferred candidate. It's your party and your **** show.

Then stop complaining that a handful of conservative insurgents are standing against Kevin McCarthy. Not your fight.
Our Andy McCarthy no relation to the aspiring speaker points out that if twelve House Republicans voted "present," New York Democrat Hakeem Jeffries could be elected speaker. That scenario is unlikely, but there was a report yesterday that "Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and Scott Perry (R-PA) told Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) that they don't mind if the speaker vote goes to plurality and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) is elected because they will fight him"

In other words, at least a handful of House Republicans are saying they're fine with a Democratic speaker and Democrats effectively controlling the House, despite the outcome of the 2022 midterm elections. Note that these are exactly the kinds of Republicans who call each other "RINO," contend that other Republicans aren't tough enough or smart enough, and simply believe that others aren't willing to do what it takes to win.
Right now, in the House, the GOP is a nominal or technical majority party with a large faction which has no interest in acting like a majority. They may well be happier being in the minority.

I think I mentioned a scenario like this to you in another thread……just a scenario, at this point.

I believe your concern was moderate Republicans cutting a deal that resulted in a Democrat Speaker. This scenario is the Gaetz/Boebert group doing a kamikazie which results in a Democrat Speaker
Once again reminds me of Never Trumpers and the 2020 and 2022 elections....

Okay
I hope you are as proud of the Gaetz/Boebert group as I am of the AZ Never Trumpers.
BTW just pointing out that Trump's endorsement is taking down another candidate
They're both embarrassments, although Gaetz/Boebert have not yet reached Cheney level embarrassment.

Remember, it's people like me that are stuck in the middle of you clowns.

If we don't get rid of the Santos, Greene and the ilk of Lake we are doomed.

Isn't Greene supporting McCarthy?

Yep, She is
Was surprised to learn she actually did support Kevin but I still think her ilk are the biggest detriment to the Party.
MTG has flipped over to the uniparty wing of the GOP so she's on your side. She cut some kind of deal with McCarthy so she could get on committees and has sold out all of the people who were backing her.
What do you think Gaetz and crew are fighting for? It isn't your self interest, that's for sure. Committees, committee chairs and membership are the baseball cards traded in this situation.
They told Mccarthy what they wanted and he declined. Seems pretty cut and dry.
They've changed it 4 times so far. Which version do they want?

That's not the way I read "goes to plurality." Far more likely that mods crossover to cut some kind of deal with Dems to get enough votes for McCarthy or some other moderate Republican, offering up rules more favorable to the minority, promised legislation, one or more committee chairmanships. There is a template for that kind of structure = the Texas legislature. The organizer of such effort is invariably.....the speaker.

Think about motive. The only viable reason to cross over to Dems is to gain the speakership........

Fair point.

There has to be an element of personality involved in this fight, making it larger than just the rules, the agenda, the legislation. It's not just McCarthy is too moderate; it's just McCarthy.

How sad.

Changing the conversation from the Republican crash to Adam Schiff.

The "Twitter Files" have largely been a dud.

I don't blame some of you for trying to change the subject.

But on the most important issue at hand, though this situation is of their own making, the current fight by the Chaos Caucus is bad for the country. It's also the inevitable fruit of Donald Trump.

Bowing the knee to Trump led to a weak Republican showing in the midterms.

The weak showing led to a narrow Republican majority in the House.

The narrow majority empowered the bomb-throwers.

The bomb-throwers are holding not only the House but also America hostage.

Those who are saying this is somehow a good look for Republicans are putting lipstick on a pig.

This is also a good illustration of the old saying that the only people conservatives hate more than liberals are their fellow conservatives.

Lol!! Violations of the first Amendment of the constitution by sitting government officials who illegally used third parties to do things they were constitutionally prohibited from doing is THE biggest story of the last decade. That leftists in the democrat owned media ignore it only shows how deeply engrained this type of illegal activity is in the left's political machine.

If you aren't calling for every government official who participated in this to be jailed, you are the problem.
