So where do you fall, my friend? I have seen your food porn pics. It looks to me like you may not have been fasting lately.
I love great food... Natalie and I agreed about a decade ago that we live in the 4th largest city in the US.... we endure pollution, crime, traffic, hurricanes.... but we weren't really enjoying everything that this town has to offer....so we started going to the Theater, the Symphony, and the Awesome Restaurants you can get here that you can't get in Seguin.... it really opened my eyes.... I started cooking seriously after going to some of those places.... and right now I'm paying the price.... retiring from coaching means I'm not working so much over the summer and I'm not as active in just living my life as I used to be... I'm bigger now than I have been, but have lost 13 pounds since August 15....

I'd love to get back to 2011, but that's still 50 pounds away... but I'm trending in the right direction in the last month

On my Mom's side of the family, she is the youngest of 9 (5 boys, 4 females), not a single male lived to 60.

Other than ridiculous amounts of whiskey and schlitz, I doubt they ever ate processed food.

Being the pig that I am, I probably eat processed garbage every day. Maybe I should try something different.

On the other hand, I dont drink and my blood pressure is relatively low.

Genetics is a huge part of it......but eating less and being physically active helps the odds.

Almost as important.....if one is in decent shape....you can do more fun/active things.

Big beautiful world out there once you get out of the cities .

Good posts Prarie, enjoyable reading.

I've made a conscious effort in the past few months to start scalling back my meat intake. Right now I consume meat anywhere between 10-14+ meals/week. It's absurd. Processed meats aren't really my thing and I don't eat fast food but admittedly the meat consumption needs to be scaled down considerably.

I love meat (twss) and I tend to stay very active and workout 5-6 times per week so my body is constantly craving calories and protein but I realize it's likely not sustainable long term no matter my physical condition or how "good" I feel right now.

Never giving up bread though.

The states that legalized recreational cannabis have the least amount of fatties.

That just defies logic lol
They had the least obesity rates before legalization, because they tend to eat healthier.

Speaking of ****ty food. I had to go to Costco yesterday at lunch. when walking out, I glanced over to the food place. Everyone there eating that crap was way, way, overweight with their heads buried in Hot Dogs and Pizza!! Gross. I do like a Costco Hot Dog btw. just and observation.

A significant percentage of Americans are grotesquely fat.

In the majority of cases that is a CHOICE.

A choice that (for most ) will inevitably result in expensive health issues.

And that financial burden should remain exclusively with the undisciplined individual.

Well, as long as we allow people to go to the gas station or grocery and buy bags of chips and sodas on food stamps/Lone Star, folks willl be fat

Obesity is not limited to people on food stamps. Too many folks simply will not do any physical activities.

If they simply got off their ever expanding asses for one hour a day....and hiked, biked, or worked out.....they would live far better lives .
Exercise is important for many reasons, but in the end you can't out exercise a bad diet. The rate of Type 2 Diabetes, strokes and heart attacks parallels the graph in the article posted above. The bottom line is we are killing ourselves prematurely by what we eat. Obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and some cancers are all related to eating foods that are high in saturated fat, cholesterol, that clog our arteries, promote over production of insulin, and depress our immune system. Most don't eat enough plant based whole foods so they are deficient in the necessary phytochemicals and micronutrients that are essential to clean arteries, and a healthy immune system that can fight off cancers. Now we're paying for it with runaway health care costs. The health care crisis would resolve itself if we ate healthy real food that we evolved to eat (or as some believe were designed to eat) . It's a fairly simple answer - we have to change what we eat. If we eat a diet that is consistent with the natural history or biological needs of our species, obesity is not a problem. That's why humans and domestic animals are the only species where obesity is a concern.
