When I win the $540 million cash option, it won't change me.

Here's hoping y'all don't buy a ticket

You will suddenly have relatives and friends you never knew you had. Good luck!

I've always wondered whey people jump on the $900M jackpot. Is the $100M jackpot just not enticing enough??

The $100 million jackpot is not enticing if you understand opportunity cost. With the odds of winning getting tougher each year (cause they keep adding numbers to the ticket), the jackpot has to be very large for the opportunity cost to be greater than the price of the ticket.

Here's a quick and dirty blog I started, but didn't completely finish. It gives you the first steps you should do after you win the lottery. https://lifeafterlotto.wordpress.com/2016/09/12/first-blog-post/

$540 mill will allow me to live far away from them

It's basic psychology. Not everyone plays every week, and of the people that would even consider paying the dummy tax, the majority of them only play the lotto very rarely. So huge jackpots get people interested that wouldn't otherwise get interested.

I have a Sanity Plan for hitting the lottery. But, as I told my girlfriend today, a billion dollars in the Megamillions might sink my plan, so I'm gonna take the half billion Powerball instead.

If the jackpot is 970 million....just think of all the millions LOST by folks attempting to get rich quick.

Wonder how many folks lost more than they could afford.

You can 'bet' these kinds of stories don't get much publicity.

If you did not buy a ticket, yes.

When the lottery first came to Texas a guy named Turk Pipkin wrote an article in the back of Texas Monthly about odds, how much to risk, etc. Thing I remember most was his Sure Thing Bet: the only bet he thought was worth making.

If you decided to play the same numbers every time, then his Sure Thing was to bet that when your numbers hit, you didn't play them that time.

Not a bad move hode. The chances that a potential winner sees your blog is much better than the chances of you actually being the winner.

Just bought my ticket. Don't bother to buy one. The new American that sold it to me down at the 7-eleven on Camp Bowie told me he guaranteed it to be the big winner. He'll get a bonus.

A buddy of mine once told me that the lottery is for people that aren't very good at math. By the same token, you can't win if you don't play! Just spent the last $6 in my wallet on a few Power Ball tickets for tonight's drawing.

The sad thing is.....many folks buy far more tickets than they can afford.

I suppose they are waiting for all the lottery losers to build up the payout up to the point that even wasting a few bucks, for such a crazy amount is worth the fantasy of winning.

I buy tickets occasionally. I call it my "idiot tax".

When the jackpots get large, we buy 1 ticket each drawing just for fun.

and now she's paying a burdensome tax.

Of course, you could tell here this; To whom much is given, much is expected. If you do, please video tape the event and ask those who survive you to post it here.

I did know one of the first Texas lottery winners....very very poor family... kids on free lunch poor. They bought a new house and cars for relatives...3 years later county took the house and kids were back in free lunch. It was very sad to see the mismanagement.
