More freebies for the young'uns! Not sure how Bernie will top this. Elizabeth Warren wants to forgive student debt and get the "ultra-rich" to pay for it.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/warren-calls-for-massive-student-debt-relief-and-free-public-college-tuition/ar-BBWaYx4?OCID=AVRES007

What kind of message does that send to young people that it is okay to not pay your bills? How will those that worked, sacrificed, and did without and paid off their college loans feel about this?

The ' bidding war ' for the votes among the Dem contenders will only intensify in the coming months .

A. ' Free' health care
B. 'Reparations' for blacks ( Indians, Hispanics , vegans, Cleveland Brown fans etc )
C. 'Free' university tuition.
D. Debt forgiveness
E. 'Free monthly stipends for all Americans ( except those who insist on working )

Agree with you Sir. Trump is an arrogant, narcissistic, womanizing ass. But he is by far a better choice than anyone in the New Far Left Democratic Party. I don't have to like him to vote for him.

I realize that the moderate wing of the Democratic party is not so big these days. However, they are 20ish candidates trying to outdo each other in the free stuff department. A serious candidate who wants a shot at Sanders and probably Biden when the field inevitably thins out would start off in the center and would move a little left of center when the Dem voters would have to decide between a couple of fossils or a candidate with broader general election appeal. The Dems would probably still pick the fossil lefty but it is a better strategy than one of many longshot liberals throwing the free stuff haymakers every week or so.

It's sad how these dems' campaigns remind you so much of the way a grade schooler would run for class president by promising a ban on homework, more dessert for lunch, and five hour recesses.

There are certainly not very many moderate Dems in terms of elected officials. I suspect there are a greater % of moderate Dem voters than you think but there is no doubt that the party is trending hard left. And since the long term demographic trend is going to be majority Dem in this country, it is the main reason why I have been negative for some time about the future prospects of this country. It is still the greatest nation on earth but that is only because Europe is a generation ahead of us on their socialist and secular decline.

All student loan debt is forgiven. Hmmm...

What about the people who worked their butts off to pay off all their student debt over many years? How about those who completed college over a decade in a pay as you go method? How about parents who took extra jobs (like my dad) so there would be minimal debt after college?

Maybe Dems already have an algorithm to determine this. I'd like to see it.

I love the way these "I'll promise anything to get elected..." leftist democrats always act like there will be an endless supply of "ultra rich people" (which there clearly isn't and won't be) that will just smile, lay down, and let the government confiscate whatever insane amount of money it wants to suck from them (which they won't - they'll figure out ways to move assets elsewhere and many of the jobs creators among them will stop doing so with devastating trickle down impact). These proposals are beyond insane and if implemented will do nothing but ultimately turn America into a giant 3rd world country.

It seems regardless of the issue, the Dems always seem to want to favor and reward those who don't play by the rules over those that try to abide by the law and exhibit personal responsibility. I can quickly think of at least a few examples. What have I forgotten?

  • Cancel out student loans that are not getting paid back often times because it cut into the person's funds needed for pleasure, while others have scrimped and eked by for years placing their student loan debt burden at or near the top of the money they pay out first each month. I know....I have a close relative that has a student loan. I would love for her to no longer have it, but she should pay it off. She took it out and knew what she was getting for it.
  • Express paths to citizenship or benefits for those that illegally entered the United States while those who did it the right way worked for years to become citizens legally....and those that are trying to do it the legal way just see others gain support that they still don't have.
  • Guaranteed income for those that won't lift a finger to work although certainly able while others see it as their responsibility to work themselves to death to provide for their family because that is the responsible thing to do and look at charity as demeaning.
  • Guarantee college acceptance to people who have demonstrated in high school to show they don't really care about school over those who have busted their butts to fit studying into tight work schedules and home situations, but aren't the right color, sex, or race to get their slide greased into a school they want and deserve.

Why are such examples simply nothing more than attempts to buy votes?.....And, many times votes from people that have not shown they do their part as citizens to make our culture better for everyone.

Why, other than personal pride, should any responsible person jump through hoops to do things the right way? The only thing it gets them is a label of being a sucker.

Outline of Warren Proposal
Sen. Elizabeth Warren unveiled a sweeping higher education plan on Monday that calls for canceling tens of thousands of dollars in student loan debt for a huge swath of working and middle-class Americans and eliminating tuition at public colleges.
The proposal by Warren, who is among a crowded field of candidates vying for the Democratic presidential nomination, would eliminate up to $50,000 in student loan debt for every indebted person with a household income of less than $100,000.

Borrowers who make between $100,000 and $250,000 would also be eligible to have a smaller portion of their debt forgiven. Americans making more than $250,000 would not be eligible for loan forgiveness under the plan.

Exactly...it's blatant vote buying .

LBJ started the trend .

But it was Bernie Sanders in 2016 who alerted every Dem to vote buying's real potential.

'It's all going to be FREE and we'll make the RICH pay for it '

This ridiculous philosophy almost propelled an old, basically unknown socialist into the White House .

What about borrowers who has a HH income of less than $100k who paid off all their debt in the past? Shouldn't they be refunded? How much does that add to the cost?

Free tuition. Is the gov't paying or are schools going to be forced to eat costs? If the gov't is paying they will enact cost controls. If they enact cost controls, some colleges will need to fire lots of qualified professors. How much will a free education really be worth and how "free" will it truly be?
