Forget the potato heads for a minute.
This isn't about rights. Whether it is 0.4% of the population (actual stat of those that identify as trans) or 99.4% - we have to respect rights established by the Constitution for everyone.
But this isn't about rights. No rights are being violated by using certain pronouns or prefixes. The concern then, is about being offensive to a minority group. But renaming things to gender neutral isn't even about being offensive. I say it's not offensive to have a Mr./Mrs. because those prefixes do actually represent a vast majority (99.6%) of the population and does not signify "being less than" to those that do not identify in that way. (In other words, it's not like a racial slur that is used to degrade.)
The reality is that, at worst, we're just talking about exclusivity here - not including an option that represents a very, very small portion of the populous, whether that be in the naming of products (Mr/Mrs Potato Head) or in the production of products (say, a doll that is clearly male or female or one that has the physical characteristics desired by a small minority of individuals).
We can, as a society, always be inclusive on things like rights. We decide what those rights and we determine whether or not they are being restricted to a subset of the population and, if so, we adjust. It's a clear "yes or no" as to whether someone is being unfairly restricted.
But we cannot, as a society, always provide an environment where people are not offended or *ALL* aspects of society are viewed as inclusive to all people. It is the equivalent of trying to create an environment where everything is "fair." But we can't legislate "fairness" as what is "fair" or non-offensive to one person may be considered unfair or offensive to another- there are simply too many variables.
