It is private property with rules. The rules happen to be both the platform's rules--which the platform does not uniformly apply--and society's rules, which allow the platform to exist without being sued into oblivion. Since society has granted the platform special dispensation for speech to allow the platform to survive and the dispensation was given to the platform based on the assumption that the platform would be a "free market for ideas and speech," then the platform needs to both (a) be an open platform for ideas and speech and (b) uniformly apply its own rules provided they are consistent with promoting and allowing a free market for ideas and speech.

You have gone way out in the weeds here, my friend. What the heck are you talking about? Did you post this on the right thread?

Keep things they way they are and it ends in disaster LIQR.

Every single year the list of online speech rules grow and there's no diversity in the market. They tried to start up multiple social media sites and they were attacked. They also turn into bubbles. There is no future where twitter is replaced by a more fair twitter.

I expect even this website or any political forum to cease to exist after Big Tech reins in hosting sites for "extremist breeding grounds".

I dont care about where democrats are. I just think a man should be able to run his business. It seems strange to hear "conservatives" calling for more regulation and begging for the government to run a private business.

Carlos, I have lookedfor this. Have a link?

I will call for less government. Repeal Sec. 230 and let Twitter and FB do what they want and play by the same rules as any other publisher.

So lets just let the government determine private businesses'' product.? I know China does that but didnt think rred blooded Americans would be asking for the same.

This isnt a freedom of speech issue. You can say or write anything you want.

It's the opposite. Repealing social media protections is getting government out of the equation and letting the market figure things out on it's own. China does not do this.

I believe the right thinks they should be able to say whatever they want and the owners of the private business should be forced to provide them service. They want to take away the private business' right to control their product. Its like forcing HEB to sell doodoo sandwiches. The producers have no right to demand a business carries their product.

Capitalism allows businesses to choose their products and sell what they think will give them the most profit. Communism/socialism seizes private property, calls them utilities and takes over. The ability to spew is not the same think as electricity, sanitation or water.

The funniest thing is so many people that complain with their mouths keep supporting them with their actions. I have never tweeted, got banned from Facebook but admit I still use Google.

I'll leave it to you to speak for the left. I know some of his policies resonated with me.
If you can admit that some of Trump's policies resonated with you, then you should be able to understand why Trump is still relevant to GOP plans even in elections where Trump himself is not running.
It's not an "admission." I openly supported him most of the time he was in office.
More like 20-25% of the time, as I recall.
Some posters do misuse their time by spending it with family instead of jumping into a circle jerk to say "Praise him!" for the fifty-third time.

Of course you don't care about the hypocrisy of democrats and liberals.

But let me be clear. Private business should be able to run their business as they see fit, however they do NOT deserve extra protections under section 230 of the DMCA.

I'm not looking for the gov't to step and make twitter or facebook allow Trump on their website, but I am looking for the gov't to NOT step in and give them extra protections.

Certainly a reasonable person could agree.

First, I realize these words have lost all meaning among 21st century "conservatives," who throw them at everyone who disagrees with their Trumpian worldview, but you cannot be both a fascist and a socialist/Marxist. They are literally competing ideologies.

By moderating and removing content (and the people who post it) they're taking control of the content and content providers on their websites while making editorial decisions.

This is what publishers do.

Google held a 73.1% share of the US ad tech market in 2019. Do you understand how much they can impact society?

How about we go with anti trust laws? They won't stifle economic productivity.
