In a 1944 letter to segregationist Mississippi Senator Theodore G. Bilbo, Byrd wrote,
"I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side. Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds."

As late as 1946, Byrd wrote to the Klan's Grand Wizard: "The Klan is needed today as never before, and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia and in every state in the nation."

This is all true. However, Byrd repented of his racism and made up for it as best he could in politics and policy.

I was once a racist, and am doing all I can now to repent of it and make up for it.

Hoping the same for you!

Let go of all that hate. You'll feel a lot better!

Well, don't ya' know... this day and age (according to liberals), if you treat black people just like you treat everyone else, then that's racist.

Oh, and you need to denounce any white privilege.

Oh, and white silence = violence.

Mmmmmm, no. Byrd made statements in public to stay in a good light once most people found out he was a Racist, but his character as far as I can tell remained the same, and his politics were always self-first.

That which does not kill me, will try again and get nastier

True, so why do these same leaders encourage CRT and tearing down statues of past historical leaders who also repented. And calling everyone racist who used to be associated with any kind of racism or slavery (that changed). Can't have it both ways.

Yep.

Pushing crt is racist in itself, whether intended or not. I am doubting very seriously anybody pushing it has repented of anything, they just shifted the object of their personal bias/racism.

But if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors.

I think it's more likely racism is a part of their own culture, and they need to deny that it even exists to preserve their sense of morality. It is very hard to wake up one day and realize a huge part of your belief system is not only wrong, but harming others. We rarely want that. That's why reading a book would be great for this guy. He can learn slowly through the experiences of others, and it won't be so hard.

If racism is such a critical part of your world view that you claim to have never met a racist, you and others of your culture have definitely harmed plenty of people. Slave owners were the original "we aren't racist"s, but you don't actually need to own a slave to be harming society with your racism.

This is all true. However, Byrd repented of his racism and made up for it as best he could in politics and policy.

I was once a racist, and am doing all I can now to repent of it and make up for it.

Hoping the same for you!

Let go of all that hate. You'll feel a lot better!
I'm not really familiar with Byrd's statements of repentance. Are you? If so, do you care to share.

I'm not being a smart azz (this time) I genuinely am not familiar with any of these potential statements.

I just took the time to look up his statement of repentance. The first 5-6 things referenced the same sentence in his book.

I'm curious if those so willing to forgive Byrd upon his written statement in his book, have been just as willing to forgive others for much less.

Never have been, never will be and never met a racist.

Maybe you think your experience applies to most white people which is why you believe in critical justice?

Oh God please read a book. Denial isn't the answer. Ignorance isn't truly bliss, it more accurately is just ignorance.

Anyone who says they've never met a racist is either super naive or a liar.
I've met plenty of black people that hate white people.... so yeah, I agree.

Byrd repented and made up for it in politics and policy????? Politics and policy? Seriously? That atoned him for his sins?

Tell us how you were once a racist. I'd like to hear this. I've never known or been around a racist before.
Tell us how you are repenting for it. I'm curious. I hope it is before God because nothing else matters.
Tell us how you are making up for it.

Don't worry about me. I am not a racist. Close though. I am what you call a realist.

I hate no one or nothing. I don't even hate the rioters, looters, killers, assaulters, law breakers, dividers, communists, marxists, etc. They have enough problems without little ole me hating on them.

I feel pretty good for what I have been through. I am concerned about the future my kids and grandkids and great grandkids will grow up in. That worry causes me to pause and take notice and speak up here with my Baylor Brothers.

Which party uses the racism of low expectations? Did he remain in that party?
