Hey, does anyone know if they have a vaccine for white privilege? Asking for a friend.
J.B.Katz said:He did say that. The video is short. It's worth watching. I'm not usually a fan of Dershowitz but he gives a master class of handling rudeness and belligerance with grace and common sense and the soft, but firm answer that, in this case, didn't turn off Ingraham's wrath. Worth your time.D. C. Bear said:J.B.Katz said:Did you think Laura Ingraham's behavior and treatment of Dershowitz was acceptable? I can imagine your reaction if a left-wing host from MSNBC treated someone who agrees with your viewpoint and was doing so in a reasonable, polite way, as Dershowitz was doing in this clip, like Ingraham treated Dershowitz.D. Well, pretty much if you're vaccinated, you don't need to worry about your health relative to others' disease or vaccination status. There is no "right to know" the vaccination or disease status of your fellow passengers.
Did he really say he thinks COVID is worse than smallpox? What planet is he living on, because it certainly is not this one!
Unfortunately, it appears vaccination does not completely protect people from the Delta variant, hence the CDC's revised guidelines: https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2021/07/30/provincetown-covid-outbreak-vaccinated/
Dershowitz is right. Vaccination may be a choice, but airlines, public transit, employers and businesses should be able to opt out of hosting people who chose not to be vaccinated who don't have a legit reason to opt out.
He makes a bunch of valid points, including the fact that we don't know how bad this is going to be in the long-term.
I didn't watch it, so I am not in a position to evaluate what she said or how she treated him. I am inclined to take your advice and not watch it. That is why I asked, "Did he really say he thinks COVID is worse than smallpox?" If you watched it, would you be so kind as to answer my question?

Did he really say he thinks COVID is worse than smallpox? What planet is he living on, because it certainly is not this one!
A sobering scientific analysis published Friday of an explosive Massachusetts covid-19 outbreak fueled by the delta variant found that three-quarters of the people who became infected were fully vaccinated. The report, from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, bolstered the hypothesis that vaccinated people can spread the more transmissible variant and may be a factor in the summer surge of infections.
The data, detailed in the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, provided key evidence that convinced agency scientists to reverse recommendations on mask-wearing and advise that vaccinated individuals wear masks in indoor public settings in some circumstances.
Critically, the study found that vaccinated individuals carried as much virus in their noses as unvaccinated individuals, and that vaccinated people could spread the virus to each other. The CDC was criticized this week for changing its mask guidance without citing unpublished data. The report released Friday contains that data.

It is not sufficient information to freak out as so many seem to be doing in government and media.
What percentage of the people in that particular population were vaccinated?
How was their vaccination status determined?
How many of those with positive tests, vaccinated or not, have cases that require significant medical attention?
Are the numbers of cases higher or lower than you would get with a group of unvaccinated individuals in a similar setting?
What was the mix of the three authorized vaccines in the population?
The efficacy of the vaccines depends on their continued ability to prevent serious illness and death. What will call into question the efficacy of the vaccines is going to be if we see people getting sick and dying at the same rates or nearly the same rates whether they are vaccinated or not. This could happen, but it is not happening at this point.

A triumphant President Joe Biden all but announced an end to the pandemic in the U.S. on Sunday, celebrating what he called a "heroic" vaccination campaign on the country's Independence Day holiday.
"Today, all across this nation, we can say with confidence: America is coming back together," Biden said to a cheer from the invited guests. "Today, while the virus hasn't been vanquished, we know this: It no longer controls our lives, it no longer paralyzes our nation and it's within our power to make sure it never does so again."

Update: Texas has passed 8,000 COVID hospitalizations.
— William Joy (@WilliamJoy) August 5, 2021
Now at 8,130, the most since Feb. 12.
Hospitalizations have now tripled in 3 weeks.
Sadly 76 deaths today, most since mid-April.
Health officials say this is preventable.

Good points.Forest Bueller_bf said:Total admissions still running high for those 70+. 10X for those under 18. Even though there are twice as many age 0-17. So per capita they are about 20X more likely to be admitted if you are 70 plus.Jacques Strap said:
New Hospital Admissions 7 day avg. for Texas took a dip. Kinda surprising given the border situation.
Button in the middle to "select a jurisdiction". By age is also available if you have school age children and want to see that for your state.

Also consider the percent below 18 to have the shot is pretty low and 75% plus for those 70 and up have the shot, we can see how difficult this illness is for older adults.
20X more likely to be admitted, even though they are 4 to 5X more likely to have had the shot.
Thanks for the data. 17 and under are at extremely low risk of this illness.Jacques Strap said:Good points.Forest Bueller_bf said:Total admissions still running high for those 70+. 10X for those under 18. Not a shock but it is looking more and more like vaccines work better for people under 70 years old and/or BMI under 30. Young + skinny + vaxed is the safest profile

persuaded me, I am getting all three shots tomorrow! No and neither is my nurse wife and both of us have been working this whole time and neither have caught it. Maybe it's more about living healthy and not being a fat ass vs the scary virus.
I've read this, that a huge percentage of nurses are unvaccinated. I had a family member die after going to the hospital for something unrelated to covid, then got covid in the hospital, and died a few weeks later. I wish you people would use your brains, but it does seem everyone has dug their trenches and isn't going to peek out.
Edit: If you are healthy you likely wouldn't know if you did have it. It's not all about you though.
Repeating what should be obvious, I am fully vaccinated and wear a mask when required or I believe that is the prevailing custom in that place. I also believe that the people who are not yet vaccinated will resist unless and until a persuasive case is made to change their mind.
If your goal is to get more people vaccinated, I recommend listening to the unvaccinated person's concerns and arguments, respect any valid point they make, then respond with evidence to assure them that the vaccine is safe and effective, even if not perfect.
If your goal is to prove how internet macho you are, keep attacking and insulting the doubters, driving their opinion into a hard shell which will eventually reject even the most reasonable argument for vaccination.
If the possibility of someone dying because you choose to be unvaccinated and around a ton of sick people isn't a valid point to an antivaxxer, there aren't going to be any valid points.
