Camp Observations (6/4)
Colt, Amy, and I covered the camp as Damon had something pop up. We got there and ran into several familiar faces. We didn't know what to expect as 2015 and 2016 were so different and 2017 was again a change.Verified with Baylor where we could be and then went into the stands. Watched the testing portion and saw a few kids that were flying down the field. Watched the shuttle drills and you can see fluidity in the drill on several prospects. One of the OL that impressed in one on ones had issues in the drill and Robin Jones sitting behind called out what the issue on the prospect was. We later met the mother of the prospect and she confirmed he'd hurt that area and was recovering from it.The prospects were then separated and the QB/WR/TE groups were at the stadium, OL/DL inside the Allison, DB/LB were outside. Then we made the walk with Robin over to the Allison. Robin and I then sat down and had a water out of the IceMule Cooler I bought for camps and travel. Thank you REI.Former pitcher Jeff Martin saw us and sat down and his son Rex was competing as an OT. 6-5 260 and starting at Katy Tompkins. He'd camped at SHSU on Saturday where DeLeone worked with him and told him he'd really get a workout on Sunday. DeLeone worked the OL on technique for an hour before a single rep was taken. Maurice Porter and Josh Pelzel were the current athletes working and they looked lean and strong. Pelzel moved well in his drops and had veins showing in his calves from development. Rex Martin is moving up from JV for his Jr season and he'll be someone to watch.2018 Celina OG Grant Smith had the best days. Smith was powerful and quick and had a field day on a large DT where his punch ended the play as the kid quit.http://www.hudl.com/video/3/4148876/5721d4d9c124573b547ccd8eThen I look up and #21 Cook is stretching with a coach. And Colt comes over and says, "Anthony Cook is here." I say, "Wow!" We then follow Cook outside and see JT Woods out there and he's 6-3. He's smooth, he's fast, and there's Anthony Cook working out. Coach Fran is working over Cook, Woods, Erick Hallett, Donavann Collins, Jeffery Carter, and one more 2018 prospect and they're all special, but you can see Cook is pure in everything he does. Woods might be able to play corner as they work on his hip turns and he picks it up quickly. Collins looks great. Carter gets offered. Hallett is more safety, but Fran is trying to pull a corner out of him. Hallett could be good to great depending on the scheme. We then head back to the stadium as a group as we're tired, sunburnt, and ready to see one on one battles. We get back, Colt points out John Holcombe and he almost breaks the nose of someone on the sideline not in the play with his throw. Cannon, no idea where it is going.Jacob Doddridge is running at TE and LB and covering RBs well out of the backfield. He'd run TE, DE, and LB at the camp and told us he was really tired by the time they hit one on ones, but he's making plays. That's it for now, but the difference was notable in attention to detail.Didn't see anyone else there besides the TruBuzz group and we looked for them as we're all pretty friendly with each other, imo.I'm sure Colt and Amy will have more.
New 2019 Offer Coming
Donavann Collins (Cedar Hill) came down and visited Saturday. His quote, "Coach Fran and McGuire told me an offer is coming, but they have to get it approved by Coach Rhule, but he was busy. I love it down in Waco."On the possibility of committing, "Most likely, but not sure, but most likely. I'm coming down with my mom next weekend."
