Tight End Recruiting Update - Baylor likes hybrids
Baylor is bringing three tight end prospects to campus that you may or may not be familiar with, but I will do my best to bring you up to speed on them as they head into their official visits with Baylor.BJ Thompson (6-7, 205) - England, Arkansas (England)Official Visit Date: Jan. 27Background: This has been Baylor's top target at the position since Matt Rhule was hired. The staff has recruited him as a DE and TE and he will play both ways if he ends up a Bear. News: Thompson recently decommitted from Washington State, but is being pursued by Florida, Florida State and TCU. He is set to take an official visit to Florida State on Jan. 25 and could be lining up a few others. The Latest: Thompson recently told me that there is not a program that is recruiting him harder than Baylor right now. He also continues to mention that playing both ways is a major deal for him. He is unsure when an offer from Florida State could come, but he believes it will at some point. Note: The Baylor coaching staff will be by to see Thompson on Thursday.Chabastin Taylor (6-4, 215) - Giddings, TexasOfficial Visit Date: Jan. 20Background: Taylor was offer by Baylor on Jan. 18 and was originally thought to be as a wide receiver. However, Taylor told me on Thursday morning that he is being recruited as a hybrid TE and the coaches want him to put on 15 or so pounds. News: Taylor is currently committed to Kansas State who is telling him he can play anything from wide receiver to tight end to wild cat quarterback. He likes that idea, but he said he will do anything that will help his team win. The Latest: I like where Baylor sits here if they decide to take him. He has an older cousin who played for the Bears, Jason Jackson. The only thing I could see being an issue is if he would like to play the wildcat QB position and having his hand of the ball more often. Keep an eye out for TCU and Texas Tech as well.Louis Dorsey (6-6, 220) - Jacksonville, Florida (Ribault)Official Visit Date: Jan. 23Background: Baylor went in and offered him late and has already been out to see him at his high school. The size and athletic ability is what you like to see from a tight end.News: Dorsey will take a mid-week visit to Waco that is sandwiched between visits to Illinois and Indiana. It's not a weekend visit that is preferred, but his to visits up north were scheduled in advance. The Latest: When Dorsey was offered he told me that the offer from Baylor was giving him a lot to think about. He even went on to say he could wait until after signing day. This is more conjecture on my part, but staying in the south could be a big selling point to Dorsey.

Thursday afternoon recruiting notes
I traded messages with 4-star ATH and Oregon pledge Jaylon Redd earlier this afternoon to get a feel for what was going on with him and Baylor. He confirmed that his official visit to Baylor is scheduled for Jan. 28. He will unofficially visit Oregon this weekend and then head over to Arizona State on Jan. 21. Redd was recruited to Oregon by Matt Lubick and Redd says that he is very close with the new Baylor OC. In fact, Redd volunteered to me that Lubick played "an import role in (his) decision" to commit to Oregon originally. I went on to ask him where he viewed Baylor among his top schools currently and he told me they were in his top three right now with Oregon and Arizona State. He also mentioned UCLA as being in the mix.Who knows where this goes, but Baylor is in pursuit and in the mix. At this time I'm not expecting offensive lineman Eleasah Anderson to make any decision during his visit to Baylor. Instead I expect him to take his visit to TCU and follow it up with his decision.I still feel comfortable saying that Baylor is in the driver's seat with him, but official visits can be convincing. After he received offers from OSU and TCU I asked Anderson how he was feeling about Baylor. His only response was he was wishing Baylor would hurry. Once Baylor did, I asked him if Baylor was still high on his list. His response was that Baylor was still his "dream school." Florida tight end Louis Dorsey is set to take official visits to Indiana, Illinois and Baylor. Baylor was supposed to be this weekend, but it looks like it will actually be a mid-week visit during the final week before signing day. I asked Dorsey about how the offer impacted his decision making process and he was pretty blunt."I have a lot of thinking to do now." He also mentioned that he might wait until after NSD to make his decision. I'm not sure what that means exactly, but he implied that the decision was going to be tough and that is before he steps foot in Waco. I believe I mentioned this yesterday, but Myles Jones will be hosted by his brother Xavier Jones over the weekend. I know that Xavier has wanted his brother at Baylor dating back to the time that he committed to Texas A&M, so I found this pretty interesting. Also interesting is that Jones is close with mid-term signee RJ Sneed. Sneed will have a small hand in recruiting Jones this weekend, but I think you can expect Xavier to have the control here. Go ahead and mark it up to two potential surprise official visitors for this weekend that we can't comment on right now. Both are committed to other P5 programs and both on the defensive side of the ball. Now, don't let your imagination run wild on either of them, but both are good athletes with multiple P5 offers.

2017 Class Possibility 1/10
With four signees currently in class and some mid-year transfers expected, here is a view of what the breakdown could be for 2017.2017 MID-YEAR ENROLLEESQB - Anu Solomon (Arizona)QB - Charlie Brewer (Lake Travis)RB - Abram Smith (Abilene)WR - RJ Sneed (Cy Ranch)DL - James Lockhart (Texas A&M)DB - Jalen Pitre (Stafford)Possible addition to MID-YEAROL - Tyler Moore (Minnesota)2017 CLASS (25 MEMBERS)QB - Avery Davis (NOTRE DAME) or Tyler Lytle (COLORADO)Notes: These two are a longshot, but Baylor continues to attempt to pry one loose.RB - Lakendrick Van Zandt (TCU) John Lovett Notes: Van Zandt and Lovett could both find a spot in the class, but Lovett seems to be a tough recruiting battle with several SEC and ACC schools.WR - Tariq Woolen (UTSA)WR - Charleston Rambo (OKLAHOMA)WR - KD Nixon (COLORADO)WR - Gavin Holmes WR - Trestan EbnerWR - Omar Manning Notes: Rambo is the longshot, but he is visiting which gives a glimmer of hope. The rest appear headed to Baylor.TE - Brandon Thompson (Also DE)TE - Louis Dorsey Notes: Thompson appears to be headed to Baylor and Dorsey could shut it down if he comes in this weekend.OL - Jason Moore OL - Henry Klinge OL - Xavier Newman OL - Eleasah Anderson OL - Brenden Jaimes (NEBRASKA) or Stephan Zabie or George Moore OL - Gray Davis Notes: It is difficult to find six offensive linemen for this class and the addition of Jaimes, Moore, and Zabie could include Huhn, Bardwell, and Cosmi.DL - James Lynch (COMMITTED TO BAYLOR)DL - Justin Harris DL - Chidi Ogbonnaya DL - Morris Joseph DL - Brandon Thompson (Also TE)Notes: I see Chidi flipping to Baylor when he visits. I also believe the Bears land Harris and Morris if he is offered. LB - Terrel Bernard (HOUSTON)LB - Amaud Willis-Dalton Notes: Baylor sits in a good position for Bernard. Willis-Dalton will be a fight, but the staff is putting in work on him.DB - Timarcus Davis (COMMITTED TO BAYLOR)DB - Harrison Hand (COMMITTED TO BAYLOR)DB - Trevon Lewis (COMMITTED TO BAYLOR)DB - Myles Jones DB - Kamren Curl Notes: This position is essentially full, but a special talent like Curl would be taken. Myles Jones is a longshot, but he'd be taken up until the ink is dry.

New 2017 TE Offer (1:13 pm Update)
Louis Dorsey out of Jacksonville, Florida. He is 6-6, 220. At one point held offers from LSU, Florida State, West Virginia and others. He told me that he is trying to get an official visit set up to Baylor for this coming weekend. He also has visits set up for Illinois (Jan. 20) and Indiana (Jan. 27). I'm getting the feeling that Baylor has the upper hand here. https://twitter.com/LouisDorsey00/status/818891750777516036
