Big Bear Brawl Observations (6/17)
Left the house around 10amAmy beat me to the event. Bought her a Snickers to make up for it.It was hot, damn hot, the breeze was like a furnace, we were glad it moved to the Indoor facility. The AC wasn't on or didn't feel like it.Met David Wetzel while talking with lettermen Tracy Miller, Chris George, Herb Barritt, and Robin Jones. David knew our site and was great to talk with, as were Tracy, Chris, Herb, and Robin. Over 140 OL and over 120 DL were there. OL broke out in lines of 10 and have 14.5 lines. DL had 15-20 per group and had 7 groups running drills. There were less of the young kids there, but a few were mixed in.We all timed Robin Jones' son Myles in the 40 and were within .03, .06, and .08 on our phone stopwatches, officially 4.81 (Amy 4.78/Brian 4.87/Nadia Jones 4.89) Robin says he ran 4.75 in college, Tracy disagreed.Myles is a young 6-1 2019 that looked good at DE, but Mike Siravo pulled him from drills and took him outside and worked individually with him at LB. Myles has athleticism and build to play if he doesn't grow as big as his dad.Isreal Isuman-Hundley looks like a freak, runs like a freak, and is going to be a freak in HS and then college. He will blow up. Baylor was first and that is huge for his family and mother. He went to KSU last weekend as his dad played there, but might be too far from home.We did a video interview with Isreal and he was a joy to be around.Andrew Coker has changed his body and moved better. He still needs to work on conditioning, but he's getting there. We have a video interview with him.Braedon Mowry has a great frame and the Baylor coaches ran him inside and outside and we caught up with him for a video interview.T'Vondre Sweat is a 2019 offer and he might grow into a DT. Big frame, on a visit to all of campus today and was there for over 8 hours and still there when we left.#430 in black was a great DE for 2018 and Amy has the name.#621 in white tore it up at DT and I wouldn't be surprised to see him get major attention for 2019.Jermarques Bailey, 2020 OL of Cedar Hill is massive and moves well. Video interview of him coming. Watch for a possible offer coming.Preston Wilson of Argyle has a chance to be good at OL for 2019. Kenny Arthur has been holding out on me or in Jost Van Dyke the past year.Branson Bragg got plenty of attention from the staff. DeLeone had the bullhorn over him cheering him on in one on one competition and he performed well.Starting to have a mancrush on DeLeone. That old man is great. He's surly, but funny. A perfectionist that doesn't let up.#522 in white was a 2019 OT in the making at 6-7+ 280ish and scratching the surface.Blake Lodes of Lake Ridge looked good and then tweaked his shoulder and faded. He's one to watch for 2018.A 2018 OL and DL got into a little shoving match for high hands to the face of the DL and the OL smirked as he walked off about his nasty/dirty play and DeLeone sort of loved it. Robinson liked it as well and slapped the kid on the butt with a smile. Those two are going to get some results.Josh Cochran is going to be good as a coach in a few years.Matt Rhule addressed the camp and told the OL if they didn't run under 5.3 they wouldn't be recruited. He told them to put down the video games and go run. Move. Get outside and move. Play basketball. Play racquetball. Play something. He wants OL that can broadjump 8'6He wants DTs that can run 5.0 and underDTs need to borad jump 9'DEs need to run 4.6ishNeeds to jump 9'6 (#430 went almost 11')Baylor is looking for tough, physical competitorsThey had a 185lb bench press competition during the hour break and it wasn't about how strong they were. It was about how much they would push and compete."If you're an OL or DL and you don't love to lift, you don't love football." - Matt Rhule"Thank your parents, thank your coaches, thank anyone that has supported you as they have sacrificed for you to be here." - Matt RhuleYep, definitely a mancrush on DeLeoneGot home around 8:45Ate Taco Bueno, don't @ me. Amy had Panera Bread. I win.Back on the road tomorrow

The Opening: Houston Regional 2017 Recap
Houston rarely disappoints at camps due to talent levels in the city and surrounding area. Here are the highlights, lowlights, and in between on the day.Everyone should know I find The Opening camps a little over the top, but they are well run, great camps, that do teach the kids. Sometimes that teaching bores many of us in the industry as we've seen it before, but the kids haven't and we wouldn't be here without the kids or Student Sports/Nike doing this. So, there is my lowlight of the camp, boredom from watching kids work on hand technique for an hour. Highlights Seeing Austin Stogner win MVP of the WR/TE division and him being a big fan of the Bears. The 6-6-230 prospect will be 260 with ease and dominant at the college level if his career continues moving this direction. Baylor knows about him so a move could happen sooner than later and then the fun will start for him in the amount of offers headed his way.Finding Tommy Bush over a year ago and then he came out and balled. 6-4.5 187 4.47 (fastest on this cold day) and caught everything. He beat D'Shawn Jamison, Leon O'Neal, Anthony Cook, and anyone else that decided to challenge him. Bush loves Baylor, but says he has no favorites. As good as Bush is, Brennan Eagles is a little better. He measured 6-3.5 214 4.51 and was dominant physically over any DB there. Bush is a slasher like Jerry Rice and Eagles is a Brandon Marshall. It was great to watch them work. Best part is both are polite kids and players that encourage those around them.Quarterbacks had issues today, but Jalen Mayden has a plus arm. He lacks consistency, but these events are boring and monotonous, and there is little chance to get in a rhythm when you get one rep, wait a minute, get a rep, repeat. The event started at 9am and ended after 4pm and there was not a food break for anyone. Not sure where I see him and Baylor at this point, but I'm not sure he's interested in Baylor as much as some other schools.I didn't get to see Tanner Mordecai throw and that was a miss on my part, but I likely did see him throw, just was concentrating on the receivers pulling in passes.Grant Gunnell struggled a little today, but everything is there for a great QB. Live arm, big body, and mechanics. I hope he makes a Baylor camp this summer so I can watch him closer.Ta'Zhawn Henry is cat quick and built like he can play P5 ball. He showed great feet and acceleration in drills, but you could tell he wanted to put on the pads instead of running drills. I have a video interview of him and he's a soft spoken kid and he went out of his way to say hello to me when he noticed I was filming his drills. He likes Baylor and I think it will come down to Baylor and Oklahoma State, but he mentioned Texas could be offering soon.Anthony Cook is an animal on the field. He just will not lose and I haven't seen a DB in the past 10 years like him. He always had a crowd around him and when he was free I had someone with me.D'Shawn Jamison has a Baylor offer, but I wasn't as impressed with him today as Cook or several others. Camps don't allow physical play and isn't really football, and I love his tape, so I could have had too high of expectations for him.Leon O'Neal had the best quote of the day as one of my favorite receivers Al'vonte Woodard told him to come press him and O'Neal said, "I'm a safety, if we put on pads I'd **** you up!" The rep earlier Woodard ran right past O'Neal when he tried to press him.Woodard is a stud and ready to play now in the slot. If Baylor were to get Woodard (hasn't offered) and Bush every Baylor fan should dance in the streets like a Mountaineer all hopped up on Mountain Dew moonshine.Jordan Whittington is the truth for 2019 and going to grow into a linebacker playing receiver. He's built extremely well and may end up toting the rock instead of catching it as he looks like a taller Goodley. He likes Baylor as well, but 2019 is a ways off.Miles Battle also likes Baylor and we should see him at Jr Day on 2/18.The Moore brothers were there and I don't get it. I just don't get the love both receive. I could be wrong. They're not bad, but just not this level of hype. I wouldn't have them in the top 15 receivers in Texas after seeing them at this loaded camp.Max Wright is close to A&M commits and the Aggies have been recruiting him for over a year longer than Baylor has, which started last month. He's talking of playing baseball as well and doing both in college. Baylor has a ton of room to make up, but there is a year to go. Getting him to campus would be a big step as he was Baylor/A&M just over a year ago.Colten Blanton is an A&M commit at OT and he just looks so young and I didn't see the feet today.Jalen Preston looked great one moment and mediocre the next. He needs consistency and then he'll be great.Kalon Barnes was another hit or miss receiver, but I'd put him and Preston above either Moore brother. I didn't see Theo Wease workout, but I did catch up to him and he said Coach McGuire called his HC to offer and didn't contact him to give the offer per NCAA rules. He has since called Coach McGuire to talk to him. Several times I heard of assistants and even a HC visiting with a player before they were allowed to do so. Two coaches seemed to stick out more than others. Patterson and Herman were those two.Billy 'BJ' Foster didn't work out and sort of just roamed the sidelines. He said he'd be in Dallas. Two intriguing offensive tackles were Frank Fillip of Clear Lake and Connor Galvin of Katy. Fillip was 6-7 275 and has great feet. He can really move, but is 2-3 years from being ready in college after he hits the weight room and gets serious. Larry McRae is his head coach and he says he'll get him to camps and hopes Baylor invites him to a Jr Day. Galvin made the final five and held his own against one of the better speed rushers at the camp. I talked to him and he hasn't seen any coaches come by Katy to talk to him, which is the norm for Gary Joseph. He's 6-6 270, lean, and long.A hidden gym was Bobby Wolfe of Houston Madison. The 2019 corner was 6-0 180 and went after every rep he could get and didn't back away from the top talent as he wanted a piece of each. He had great hips, closing speed, and reactions. For the first time I saw a DB and thought, he's going to blow up.James "Ben" Sims was a good looking 6-5 240 tight end from San Antonio Clark. Ran smooth routes and had some physical to him.Kenyon Green that is committed to LSU for 2019 is a man. He's going to need to lose some bad weight, but he's just mean and agile for an offensive guard. Loved watching him work today.Andrew Coker is a large human being for 2019 and he's close to Max Wright and Camron Horry, even called Horry his best friend, so A&M is leading for him at this point. He does like Baylor, Arkansas, Tech, TCU, Cincinnati, and Stanford as well.Tyrese Williams is going to be a great get for someone in 2018 out of Cy Ridge. He's powerful and agile and has the frame to be guard or center. One recruit I had set up to talk to and couldn't find after the event was over was Joseph Ossai, but I did get to watch him and he's legit. He's 6-4 220ish and flies off the ball. He's bouncy and never set still during the event as he paced when not in a rep. His intensity and coachability were always on display.JKB tipped me off to watch Starrland Baldwin and he can play. He's a little shorter than his listed height, so I'll be interested to see what he measured Saturday, but his quickness and skills were on display until he planted on a bad spot and injured his foot. He ran a 3.85 shuttle and low 4.6 on a cold day.Erick Hallett has some skills at defensive back, but I'm not sure if he should be a corner or safety. The Cy-Fair prospect was near 6-0 180 and got beat on a couple of deep balls and would then win on the next deep ball. He was inconsistent, but the talent is there.I wasn't impressed with Keondre Coburn on Saturday, but when you put the pads on he likely eats guards and centers up. He kept trying a spin move which is the worst move in a camp an interior DL can make. I've never seen it work in 15+ years.Zachary Gilson has put on good weight and while he's not the most explosive, he's a P5 kid. Hard worker and going to fill out to 6-6 270 for some team. The Sachse Mustang worked out with his teammate and Tech offer Hunter Spears. Spears has a great frame, but I didn't see explosiveness off the ball. He's still growing as well and DTs can blossom later.Another hidden gem was Henry Thomas of FB Marshall. He caught everything at receiver and is built well to play physical in the slot. He'll make someone happy in this class.

National Average Rating

The National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a SicEm365 rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the SicEm365 Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide SicEm365 readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.
