Small February finish for Baylor could still mean big things

Small February finish for Baylor could still mean big things
Baylor sits at 21 prospects signed after the early signing period, and though they have two commitments on paper as February arrives, it's probably the best practice to wipe the slate clean and look for the best of the best to finish off the final three spots.

Monday morning recruiting notes
I have had a few additional conversations + Brian was able to send a couple of notes as well to include. If both prospects want to commit, Baylor will take both Tommy Bush and Tyquan Thornton. Thornton came in unexpectedly on the unofficial visit and had a great time. Neither is viewed as a backup plan and would be taken on their own merit. Regarding Thornton, there is a reason for optimism from one source in bringing the former commit back into the fold. He had a great time on the official visit and the coaching change at Florida isn't hurting the cause. I posted about Gerry Bohanon last night but was able to get a little more feedback from a source close to the situation. Keep in mind that GB has planned to announce on Dec. 20 publicly for quite a while, regardless of how soon we knew the intentions. So those asking why he wants to wait... what he is doing isn't uncommon. "Baylor feels good about (Gerry). All signs are pointing towards him choosing Baylor, but always nervous something could change." Keep in mind that Bohanon was supposed to be in the playoffs this weekend and the first call he made was to the Baylor staff to get his official visit set up after Earle had to forfeit their games for playing an ineligible player. He was looking at a Dec. 15 official visit more than likely had this not occurred... leaving no time for other official visits. The big man in the group, defensive lineman Christian Barmore, flew under the radar until Friday morning when it was discovered that he was headed to Waco with his parents. I spoke with one contact familiar with Barmore who said the following:"He really bonded with the staff (this weekend) the best because they're both from up there.... Baylor has a shot with him. He spent a lot of time with the staff and when you spend that much time with great people, it's hard to turn them down."Don't expect much coming in way of quotes from Barmore. We will try to provide some more insight as we get it. After the visits concluded the biggest question I had was about Craig Williams. Without any hesitation, "110% solid" is the response I received. He has had a couple of in-home visitors but he is set to sign later this month. Joey McGuire had an in-home visit with Bobby Brown on Sunday. I was able to catch up with the defensive lineman briefly this morning and the Texas A&M commit told me that an official visit to Baylor was still a possibility. The last thing... commit Casey Phillips is set to take his official visit this weekend.

Four-star DL visitor for 9/2
As you can see, I've been attempting to track down and confirm the visitors who said they would be on campus sometime this fall. One of those who told me previously that he would be there for Baylor's season opener was four-star DT Bobby Brown. He confirmed today that he will definitely be in Waco on 9/2.He did not confirm this, but he has told me previously he plans to officially visit Baylor as well.

2sday Thursday
It's been far too long since my last update. I blame it on the one-month old and the dead period that started at the beginning of August. If you were curious about where the recruiting updates went, look no further than the dead period and fall practice beginning for high schools earlier this week. Previous Update (15 commitments)Commitment reflections:Connor Galvin - In my last update on July 4th, I gave Galvin a 49% chance of committing to Baylor. Two days after giving that percentage, I put my prediction in for Galvin to eventually commit to the Bears. Unfortunately, I did not get to put in my updated percentage before his commitment.Christoph Henle - Similarly, I gave my last prediction for Henle on July 4th at 35% and I never put my prediction in for Henle to commit to Baylor... which he eventually did on 7/21. Blame it on the one-week old that you didn't get an update. Joseph Ogunbanjo - He was sitting at 51% at the last update and my prediction was in on July 31, the day before his commitment. Man... I apologize, guys, for the lack of updates on all three of these guys leading up to their commitments. CommittedJosh Fleeks Jackson Gleeson Ylijaah Hall Jackson Kimble Mark Milton Christian Morgan Casey Phillips Delarrin Turner-Yell JT WoodsStanley HackettKalon BarnesJoshua LandryBen Sims Bralen TaylorMarje SmithConnor Galvin Joseph Ogunbanjo Christoph Henle QB Gerry Bohanon - 55%^RB Craig Williams - 55%^WR Tommy Bush - 60% \/OL Willie Allen - 25%OL Princeton Pines - 25%OL Cameron Wire - 10%DL Bobby Brown - 10%ATH Vernon Jackson - 20% \/- Bohanon .... my prediction is in on high here. Nothing is telling me to change it right now. - Williams .... as you saw with Amy's recent update, Williams might take visits before deciding. Or he might not. Regardless, this one is Baylor's to lose at this point.- Bush .... with as much smoke as there is about Bush and Texas I couldn't not drop him some. But I still feel good about Baylor's chances here at the end of all of it. - Allen .... he's new to the list and this one is coming down to Baylor, TCU and maybe UCLA. During his official visit Allen told several people he was heading to Baylor. He then opted to head JUCO so he wouldn't have to sit out of football for a second year in a row. Fortunately for me and you, he's within a rocks throw (not literally) of my house at TJC. I'll be seeing a lot of him. - Pines .... Continue to watch this name. Baylor could take all three of the lineman listed even with the four they have committed. Allen being a three-for-three guy allows this to work and stay within that max of six HS OL.- Wire .... At this time I would not be surprised at all to see Baylor get an official visit from Wire. - Brown .... Sept 2 unofficial visit to Baylor and he has told me that he will take an official visit to Baylor as well. We will see if that happens, but he loves the staff. - Jackson .... Losing faith here but the longer he holds off on a commitment the better. If Baylor has to take him on offense to get him, I don't see it being a big loss. New offersBaylor recently offered LB/DE Javontae Jean-Baptiste out of New Jersey and DT Israel Antwine of OKC. I expect JJB to officially visit Baylor this fall, but unsure on Antwine. Texas offered in late July. We will see how these go before I give percentages.

National Average Rating

The National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a SicEm365 rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the SicEm365 Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide SicEm365 readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Baylor and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Baylor and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
