Men’s and Women’s Tennis Set to Host 2022 ITA Kick-Off Weekend

June 17, 2021

WACO, Texas – Both the Baylor men’s and women’s tennis teams are set to host the 2022 ITA Kick-Off Weekend on January 28-31 at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco.

BU will welcome six teams from four different conferences to Central Texas as Miami, USC and Kansas selected to come to the Lone Star State as part of Wednesday’s women’s draft, while Miami, Clemson and William & Mary each opted for Waco in Thursday’s men’s draft.

The four-team tournaments will begin with the women on Friday, Jan. 28, as the top-seeded Bears take on fellow Big 12 foe and fourth-seeded Jayhawks. The No. 2-seeded Hurricanes and No. 3-seeded Trojans will also square off with a berth to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on the line.

Then, on Saturday, Jan. 29, the winners will play for a spot in the national event, leading up to men’s action which begins on Sunday, Jan. 30. No. 1-seeded BU hosts the No. 4-seeded Tribe, before second-seeded Miami tangles with ACC rival and third-seeded Clemson.

The two winners will come back the following day, Monday, Jan. 31, to play for a spot in the national event.

Baylor is hosting the ITA Kick-Off Weekend for the eighth time in men’s program history, while the women will play host for the first time since 2013. That was also the last time that the Baylor women advance to the ITA National Indoor Championship, while the men have advanced in all 10 of their previous ITA Kick-Off Weekend appearances.

If the BU women can win both of their matches, they’ll make the trip to Madison, Wis., on the campus of the University of Wisconsin for the national event on Feb. 11-14, 2022. The University of Washington will welcome the qualifying men’s teams for the national indoor finals on Feb. 18-21, 2022, in Seattle, Wash.
