SicEm365’s David Smoak has confirmed the report that Baylor basketball forward Matthew Mayer will withdraw his name from the 2021 NBA Draft and return to Baylor for his senior year. The news was originally reported by ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.

Mayer, a projected starter for Baylor after coming off the bench his first three seasons at Baylor, will likely be projected to be a first-round pick in the 2022 NBA Draft with increased playing time in his final season as a Bear.

Mayer has averaged 8.0 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 16 minutes per game for Baylor, which won the national championship in April. In the NCAA Tournament Mayer averaged 8.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals.

Mayer was one of 69 players announced as having accepted an invite to attend the NBA combine in Chicago, which starts Tuesday, but has changed course and withdrawn his name from the event, a source told ESPN.

The NCAA deadline for players to withdraw from the NBA draft and maintain college eligibility is July 7.
