No. 14 Baylor drops weekend series to No. 15 Oklahoma
WACO, Texas - The No. 14/22 Baylor baseball team fell to No. 15/25 Oklahoma 2-1 in over the weekend in a series at the Baylor Ballpark. The Bears dropped the first game on Friday with a heavy loss of 11-3, then came back on Saturday and shut out the Sooners 7-0 before losing Sunday’s rubber match 3-0.
The Bears’ record now stands at 18-6, and they are 5-4 against ranked teams this season. After the series loss, Baylor trails OU in their all-time series 46-43.
Despite the overall loss, Baylor’s performance in Saturday’s shutout demonstrated notable pitching by junior starting pitcher Montana Parsons (2-1) and junior reliever Kyle Ott. Ott currently boasts a career-high nine-appearance scoreless streak, allowing nine hits and three walks with 10 strikeouts over 11 innings.
In Sunday’s game, senior designated hitter Matt Menard reported a career-high-tying 13-game on-base streak, and was one of the few Baylor players to record one hit in the OU shutout. Freshman catcher Shea Langliers recorded two hits during Sunday’s game, giving him a his eighth multi-hit game, which is currently a team-high.
Baylor is now sixth overall in the Big 12 with a winning percentage of .750 and a conference record of 2-4, while the Sooners sit at third overall with a winning percentage of .821 and a Conference record of 2-1.
The Bears will host UTSA in a midweek match at 6:05 p.m. CT on Tuesday, and then are set to head to the West Coast on Friday for a three-game weekend series against Washington in Seattle. The Bears are 6-0 in midweek games this season.
